Michael R. Marshall – March 24, 2022

Conesus Lake:  At age 87, Mike passed peacefully on March 24, 2022.  He was born on February 19, 1935 in Rochester, NY to the late Michael and Ardeth (Doe) Marshall.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Keith Marshall, sister Ardeth Marshall, and niece Victoria Simpson.  Survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet (Rossborough) Marshall and children;  Michael (Trish) Marshall of NC, Karen (Art) Bernecker of Retsof, and Molly (Greg) Berger of Conesus; grandchildren, Melissa (Aram) Kazazian, Rebecca Marshall, Matthew (Colleen) Marshall, Michael (Suzanne) Marshall, Emily (William) Schroeder, Kaitlyn (Ben) Ogburn, Mitchell (Lindsay) Berger, Zachary Berger, Aaron Berger, and Andrea (Jason) Sorg; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Judy Marshall, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Some knew him as coach, but his family referred to him as Grampy.

If there was ever a sporting  that his children or grandchildren were in you could be assured he was sitting in the stands, cheering them on. After the event there was much talk and strategizing over a beer and then of course, just 1 more.

He and his brother Keith were passionate about coaching Vince Lombardi football for 10+ years. He also loved to plan days of blackberry picking, trips to Florida, and fishing trips. Especially the Lantern Lounge derby’s with his kids and grandkids.

He was everyone’s Santa. Every year he would have multiple requests from various nursery schools to come and be Santa. He got such enjoyment out of keeping that magic alive. He would ask each kid if they had been good all year and then would carefully listen to what they would like. But he especially enjoyed seeing their eyes light up when the much anticipated Santa arrived

But most of all he cherished his family. Showing us all each and everyday that we were his priority. He taught us all the importance of family.

He was very generous to offer his babysitting, watching endless cartoons, prepping the boat for whatever that days outing would be, his endless teasing which no one and nothing were off limits, but most of all his patience. He always said “I am not in a hurry I can wait all day.”

You never doubted his unconditional love. We thank you Grampy and are forever grateful for the life lessons you taught us. You will be missed for sure but never forgotten. We will pass on the lessons you taught us to our kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

We love you so very much but are thankful you are at peace.   Cheers and here is to “Just 1 more!”

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 2pm on Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Kevin W. Jim attended Webster High School. After leaving school he tried several jobs, and then chose a career in the construction industry, primarily driving professionally. Jim was proud of the fact that he drove millions of miles in his career and never received a moving violation.

After he retired from the construction industry, he tried a very different form of transportation, driving a school bus for special needs children. He was somewhat surprised that he loved it and he was very successful and effective with the children. He confided that he was a big kid himself and he could think like a kid. For example: he gave each child on the bus a name and a job consistent with the name. One youngster received the name, “Deer Stalker”, and it was his job to sit in the right front seat and be on the lookout for deer in the roadway and call them out to Jim so he could drive accordingly.

People responded positively to Jim for his warmth, friendliness and sense of humor. He made friends easily and was known as a giver. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who were in need.Jim lived about half of his working life in upstate NY, especially in the Finger Lakes region, and half in the Phoenix, AZ area. In the spring of 2021, when he was living in Honeoye, he decided to move back to Payson, Arizona. At the age of 90, he drove himself across the country with nary a mishap.

However, toward the end of his life he expressed the wish to be buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Honeoye, along with other family members. His family is incredibly pleased that Jim’s wish could be realized.
