Jack grew up in the Conesus/Livonia area, and became and important part of the Championship football team in the early 50’s. After completing high school, he was given a Scholarship to Florida State University in Tallahassee to play football. Then he left Florida, and choose to go into the US Armed Forces as a Army Reservist until 1963.

Jack loved his family, and not just his immediate family. Anyone who was related in anyway became very important to him and he would visit them often just to say Hi. Going to see family was his way of relaxing and there was nothing that would stand his way to stop him from visiting one of them in hospital or going to their funeral.

Jack’s passion was in being a farmer. He always wanted to have his own farm, and was able to accomplish that dream in 1972 when he bought the farm in Nunda. To make ends meet, he was a Heavy Equipment Operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers. He also became a Realtor and owned and operated his own sawmill for many years. While in Nunda, he enjoyed being a member of the Kiwanis Club for many years.

Kathy was a selfless, caring person. She was kind, compassionate and oh so funny. At the same time she had no problem telling it like it was and made sure you always knew her opinion. That’s what so many loved about her! Her stories were hilarious and she’d always keep you laughing. She could make any day brighter, just by telling you not to sweat the small stuff!

Kathy was a natural caretaker all her life. She raised a wonderful daughter and helped with her two granddaughters in any way she could. She spent most of her career at Sonyea and Doty Day treatment centers and various county homes, ending her career in hospice care. She spent most of her later years relaxing at home, playing “the game” on her IPad and spending time with her daughter and granddaughters. She kept her small family busy, she was their ROCK and was the glue that held them together. Granny will be greatly missed; so much more than she could have ever known.

After his time in the service he worked for RG&E in Rochester, NY where he was the Director of Cash Management. Dave was a graduate of Alfred State College and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was a member of the Harrison-Lee American Legion Post #283, the Fairport VFW, he was a past member of the Fairport Volunteer Ambulance Service, and was also the treasurer of the RG&E Armed Forces Group. He enjoyed golfing, NY Yankees Baseball, bowling, reading, boating, and traveling. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Dave was an easy going person unless it was a competitive game of euchre.

Marty was born in Rochester NY where he lived until he was 9 years old. He then moved to live with family in Livonia. Marty Graduated from Livonia Central Schools in June of 1950 and was involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, baseball, basketball, and did Track and Field. He was in the band and also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Marty was inducted into the order of DeMolay at the age of 18 (international organization formed by the Knights of Templar- role was protection of Christian Pilgrims).

Marty joined the Air Force in 1950 and served through 1954 during the Korean War. He has been a member of the American Legion Post 283 for more than 60 years and served many roles during those years including Commander and Treasurer. Marty had 4 Children and 5 step-children, 24 Grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren which he loved spending time with. He was an avid bowler. He loved to collect, restore and resell Antique Automobiles and was a member of the Livingston Co. Antique Car Club. Marty loved to read and go to his grandkids sporting events. He served his community in retail and wholesale for the Livonia Dairy for more than 60 years.

Clinton/Livonia: James Miller Halsted, age 89, having spent his last days surrounded by his family, passed away Sunday, August 19th, 2018, at the Katherine Luther Home in Clinton, New York.

Jim was born in Brighton, NY on December 18th, 1928, to Floyd and Gertrude (Miller) Halsted. He graduated from Livonia Central School. Jim fell in love and married Carolyn Reed on December 18th, 1954, a union that would last 64 years and produce two wonderful daughters. On July 15th, 1954, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on June 2nd, 1956. Jim retired as the Superintendent of Building and Grounds at the Livonia Central School in 1985.

After retiring, Jim and Carolyn relocated to Myrtle Beach for several years, where he spent time enjoying the beach and actively participating in the Lakewood community before returning to Upstate New York to be closer to family. Jim was an active member of the Conesus Methodist Church, the Conesus Volunteer Fire Department, and the Livonia Grange. He also had a love of music that he was always pleased to share with friends and strangers. Whether it be listening to his records and tapes, or an impromptu concert on the harmonica he always kept in his pocket, Jim took great pleasure in sharing this love with others.

Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn of 64 years. He is also survived by daughters Nancy Sommer (Sean) and Linda Winokur (Rob), seven grandchildren, Meghan, Shannon, and Matthew Perry, Emily and Jacob Winokur, and Matt and Abby Sommer, brother William Halsted (Donna), as well as his beloved brothers and sisters in law and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his older brother, Robert Halsted (Barbara).

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Conesus United Church on Saturday, August 25th from 3 to 6 PM. We will begin with a short service, followed by visitation in the fellowship hall downstairs. The family invites anyone to stop in and share food, fellowship and memories of Jim. Laurie Ann Broadwell, 57, of Bloomfield, New York, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2018, in their family home.

Born on September 16, 1960, to Margot and Don Cole, Laurie was a loving and caring individual who had an uncanny ability to touch the lives of all who knew her in a deep and positive way. She truly lived life to the fullest, whether it was on her Harley alongside her husband Bill, yearly camping trips to Watkins Glenn, sharing a love of the Christmas holiday with her daughter Amy, or through simple pleasures like snuggling her dog Trixie and cat Nook, and spending time with friends and family around a fire in their backyard.

Laurie’s life should always be celebrated and remembered as one filled with laughter and love. The memories she created with friends growing up to the students who rode her bus and knew her as “Miss Laurie,” she loved everyone unconditionally.

Happiness was a big theme throughout her life, and Laurie shared that passion with her beloved husband Bill, who together made their house a home to anyone who stepped foot inside. In addition to her only child Amy McKearney, when she married Bill, she was blessed with three more, Devin, Ciera and Lauren.

For those who knew her, Laurie enjoyed going on adventures and taking pictures of nature and scenery along the way. She had an eye for capturing beautiful moments that others may have overlooked. It goes without saying that no one will ever look at a dragonfly the same way now that she is gone.

Sometimes she would wonder why certain things would happen, but she was a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Even with her illness, she said there was a reason but wished she knew what it was. They say the light that shines the brightest burns out twice as fast. Although she is no longer with us in person, the light that Laurie has given to so many people will forever shine in their hearts.

Laurie is survived by her husband Bill Broadwell; daughter Amy McKearney (Kevin McKearney) of South Carolina; step-daughter Devin Broadwell (Kyle Jensen) of Waterloo, New York; step-daughter Ciera Broadwell (Kraig Wright) of Hawaii; and newborn grandson Camden McKearney. She is also survived by sister Cindy Fernandez and niece Tiffany LaPrade of Newark, New York; and nephew Brandon Bloom of Arkansas. She is preceded in death by parents Margot and Don Cole and step-daughter Lauren Broadwell.

Dan always tried to help others and had a big heart. Anyone in need could always count on Dan. Boca Raton, FL/Livonia, NY: John David Weegar passed away peacefully on August 9, 2018 while in Hospice care. He was born March 11, 1942 in Rochester, NY and graduated from Livonia High School, Livonia, NY, at which time he was awarded a full football scholarship to Syracuse University. He served 4 years in the US Air Force and then returned to NY, becoming a journeyman electrician with the Rochester Local Electrician’s Union. After moving to Florida in the late 1970’s, John became an avid fisherman and earned his 100-Ton Captain’s license to enable him to run his own deep-sea fishing charter business. He eventually returned to his private electrical business, which he successfully ran until retirement. (Rumor has it that there was a very colorful bartending career somewhere along the way!)

John is survived by his loving daughter Leah Thomason (Mike), son Mark Weegar (Kathy), beloved grandchildren Bryan Weegar, Brock and Garret Thomason and (only granddaughter) Taylor Freed. Livonia, NY: Hank passed away on August 8, 2018 at the age of 85. Hank was born in Jamestown, NY to the late Charles and Thelma Wuertzer. He is survived by his wife Augusta Wuertzer of Lima, NY, his sons; Henry Stephen Wuertzer (Gina) of NH, William Glen Wuertzer of South Lima, and Charles Alan Wuertzer (Ellen) of Rochester, his grandchildren; Connor James Wuertzer, Parker Calvin Wuertzer, Vivian Scarlett Wuertzer, Jack Logan Wuertzer and Lydia Jean Wuertzer and his sister Helena Pine (Roy) of PA.

Rochester, NY/Essex Fells, NJ: Madge passed peacefully on August 8, 2018 at age 100. Predeceased by her husband Lawrence Porter Carrington, her son Lawrence Porter Carrington Jr. “Skip”, and her sisters, Elaine Wilder Bandell and Shirley Wilder Loehr. Survived by her daughter Dianne Carrington-Plano and her husband Joe Plano of Livonia; granddaughters, Susan Faber-Plano and Karen Stotz; great-grandsons, Kyrksen and Alex. Also survived by her daughter-in-law Susie Carrington of CA.

Madge was born on June 20, 1918, in Verona, New Jersey, to Harry and Louise Wilder. She was the second of three daughters. Madge grew up in Verona, attended secretarial school and worked in an insurance and real estate company. She met her husband, Lawrence Porter Carrington, on a blind date on the Fourth of July. Larry, the cousin of one of Madge’s girlfriends, was in the Navy and visiting New Jersey on leave at the time. What became a wartime romance led to their marriage in 1944.

The couple made their new home in Essex Falls, New Jersey, and had two children, son Lawrence Porter Carrington Jr. and daughter Dianne. Dianne recalls that her brother was always known as “Skip,” because when he was born, the nurse handed him to Madge and said, “Here’s your little skipper,” referencing his father’s service in the Navy.

Madge, a homemaker after her children were born, was a hostess who loved entertaining and throwing parties. She was a golfer, theater lover and traveler — she and her husband, Larry, enjoyed trips to Europe and within the U.S., including Hawaii. After Larry’s death, Madge moved to the Rochester area to be close to Dianne. She embraced this new chapter in her life with enthusiasm, making friends and taking in many GEVA performances and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra concerts, especially POPS. Madge lived at the Friendly Home for the last seven years and always was a friendly and social “people person.”

Conesus Lake: Peacefully on August 8, 2018 at age 89 years. Devoted husband to Phyllis (Manning) O’Connor, the love of his life for 65 years and loving father of Patrick (Lisa) O’Connor of Livonia and James (Laura “Cissy”) O’Connor of FL. Ron also leaves behind his 4 grandchildren; Molly, Casey, and Megan O’Connor and Raina Ballard.

Ron was born on September 4, 1928 in Batavia, NY to parents Albert & Myrta (Schultz) O’Connor. He graduated from Batavia High School and attended both Cornell University and the University of Illinois. Ron had distinguished military career serving 29 years in the United States Air Force and retiring as a Lt. Col. Ron married Phyllis on November 29, 1952 and they celebrated over 65 years together. After retirement from the military Ron lived in Lakeland Florida where he worked for Piper Aircraft for several years. Ron loved being out on the course playing golf well into retirement. He was an excellent bridge player, excelling to Life Master. Ron’s true joy was living on Conesus Lake, enjoying beers with his friends, rides on the party boat, and watching the beautiful sunsets with his wife.

Friends and family may call on Sunday, August 12th, from 2-5pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, NY. Ron’s Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 13th, 10:30am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6591 Richmond Mills Road, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY.
