Lima: January 31, 2024 at age 90 years. A wonderful Dad, beloved husband, amazing Grandfather and recent Great-Grandfather, whose love and presence will be deeply missed. Predeceased by his wife Joyce, granddaughter, Lily Ann Zisler, and brother Doug. Survived by his children; Alan W. Coykendall of Avon, Valerie L. Coykendall of Lima, Steven (Vickie) J. Coykendall of Honeoye Falls, Karen A. Zisler of Lima, andKevin S. Coykendall of Honeoye Falls. 4 grandchildren; Timothy (Jordan) Coykendall, Tyler Kirn, Ethan Zisler; Aaron Zisler, and Great-granddaughter Stevie Coykendall.

Jack was also an adopted member of the Marsh Family. Serving as a surrogate grandfather to David and Brenda Marsh’s children; Jonathan, Valerie, Elisha, and Tabitha then great grandfather to Alyssa, Caleb, and Connor.

Jack grew up in Hemlock NY, where he loved playing baseball and basketball with many cherished childhood friends. After graduating high school, he attended Rochester Business Institute studying Executive Business Administration and Accounting. Jack served honorably in the U.S. Army for 2 years at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He wed Joyce Wright in 1960 and welcomed their first set of twins, Alan and Valerie in January 1961. Jack was recalled to active duty later that year due to the Cuban Missile Crisis and traveled to Fort Bragg, NC together with his young family in tow. Their third child, Steven was born in 1963 then finally the second set of twins, Karen and Kevin were born two years later.

Jack was an Operations Manager at John M. Forster Co., The Power Transmission Specialists in Rochester where he worked for over 40 years.  He enjoyed many pursuits and loved spending time with family, friends, and the household pets. He loved to drive and did so every single day up until the very end! He was a NASCAR fan and particularly liked Ford cars. Jack was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. He bowled in leagues for many years, enjoyed playing golf, camping, biking, horseshoes, building plastic models, coaching little league baseball and girls’ softball, and later in life playing cards and croquet with his children and grandchildren.  In his later years, he became an avid fan attending many of Lima Christians’ sporting events, cheering on the kids as if they were his own. His presence on the sideline will be greatly missed.

Jack was fortunate to have his daughters Valerie, then Karen as well to take care of him after the passing of his beloved wife Joyce.

Honeoye:  At age 80, Patricia passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.  She was born in Canandaigua, NY to the late William and Eunice Wilkins. Patricia is predeceased by her brother, Bill Wilkins, sister, Linda Checho, brother-in-law, Bruce Roe and sister-in-law, Bonnie Wilkins. Survived by her daughter Mary (Chris) Keefer, son, John (Heather) Stauffer, sisters, Carol Roe, Grace (Mark) Loomis, Kathy (Foster) Hughes, brothers, George Wilkins, Bob (Kim) Wilkins, sister-in-law, Cindy Wilkins. Grandchildren, Brian and Emily Keefer, Josh, Tyler, Anthony, Haley Marie, Johnny Joseph and Ralphie Stauffer.

Dansville:  At age 87, Merrilee passed peacefully on January 28, 2024 at the Highland Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Wellsville, NY.  She was born on April 21, 1936 in Dansville, NY daughter of the late Edwin and Isabelle (Dresser) Kiehle.  Predeceased by her husband of 60 years Thomas B. Kuhn, son Thomas R. Kuhn, granddaughter Alexandra “Ali” Spitler, and sister June Owens.  Survived by her daughter Leesa (John) Spitler of Dansville, granddaughter Samantha Spitler of Webster, and great-grandson Jett Austin.

Merrilee graduated from Dansville Central Schools in 1955. While in high school, she worked in the newspaper office in town. After graduation, she typed pay bills for Shay’s Trucking.  Tom and Merrilee were married on October 8, 1955 and then traveled to San Antonio, Texas to live where Tom was stationed in the Air Force.  Their son, Thomas Raymond, was born there in 1956 and they moved back to Dansville in 1957.  Their daughter, Leesa, was born in 1959 and Merrilee was a stay at home mom until both children were in school. She went to work as a secretary for the Dansville Presbyterian Church.  During this time, Tom began working as a photographer and Merrilee became his assistant. They did many family portraits and weddings. In 1978, they opened the Photographic Emporium and initially sold cameras, photographic equipment, gifts, and Precious Moments.  They later expanded to wedding invitations and supplies, and cake decorating supplies. During this time, they traveled to photography shows all over Europe.  Tom and Merrilee closed their store in 2012. In later years, Merrilee loved to shop in thrift stores. If that day trip also included lunch out, all the better!  Merrilee will be remembered for her storytelling, her fashion sense, her cookie baking, and her love for her cat, Kitty. She will be greatly missed.

Frances (Fran) Louise Smith, a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all passed away January 27, 2024. She was known for her quick wit, kindness and dedication to family and friends.

Fran will be greatly missed by her loving children Carol Carlin, Robert (Brenda) Smith, Wayne (Sue) Smith, her grandchildren Francine Pelkey, Patricia Finocchario, Barbara Finocchario, Amy (Kyle) Fisher, Andrew Smith and Jeffrey Smith, her great-grandchildren Ryan Pelkey, Jessica Pelkey, Brandon (Sierra) DeGraff, Abigayle Fisher and great-great grandchild Paisley DeGraff. Sister-in-law Nancy Lang, niece Gail (John) Drew and nephew Bruce (Debbie) Teuscher, nephew David (Sally) Smith, nieces Linda (Steve) Futter and Christine (Patrick) Ireland. Remembering Fran with great fondness is her special friend Joyce Willard. Fran was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years Morris, her sister Betty Teuscher, brother Charles “Bud” Lang and son-in-law Albert “Bucky” Carlin.

She was born December 14, 1927 to Carolyn and Charles Lang and grew up in Avon, NY. She was fondly named after both parent’s grandmothers. While attending Avon School she was a cheerleader and president of the class of 1945. In her graduation memory book, she noted she wanted to be a “muck farmer’s wife.” Fran married Morris Smith on June 28, 1947 after his return from the Navy at the end of WWII and settled in South Lima on their farm where they raised their family. They spent 50 wonderful years in South Lima before moving to the Village of Livonia.

As a devoted housewife and mother, she was an excellent cook, canning from the vegetables grown in their garden and never let the cookie jar go empty. Fran enjoyed sewing matching mother and daughter dresses and leading her daughter’s girl scout group. Flannel shirts were always custom made for Morris, her sons and later grandsons.

When the children grew older, Fran worked as postmistress at the South Lima Post office and later moved to the Lakeville Post Office. While working at the Lakeville Post Office, a person new to the area received a quilting magazine. Fran immediately took her under her wing and they became lifelong friends.

Her family and friends knew Fran as a prolific, talented and excellent sewer and quilter who was always ready and willing to share her knowledge. After retirement, Fran spent more and more time quilting and lost count on the number she made. Her family has many cherished quilts to remember her. Fran enjoyed spending time with her friends at Silver Sneakers and after their workouts they rewarded themselves with coffee and conversation at McDonalds after their class.

She enjoyed spending winters in Florida and Arizona. Fran was a lifelong member of the Zion Episcopal Church in Avon, NY where she taught Sunday School classes and contributed on the church’s Bicentennial Quilt. She cherished her family and friends she made through quilting, sewing and exercise classes. Fran lived and enjoyed a good life.

Family and friends will be greeted for calling hours on Wednesday, January 31st from 4 – 7 PM at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Livonia NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 11AM at the Zion Episcopal Church, 10 Park Place, Avon NY. Geneseo: At age 87, Howard passed away on January 25, 2024. Howard was born on January 11, 1937 to Edgar Welch and Sarah Gillan. He is survived by his children, Rick (Donna) Welch, Randy (Carol) Welch, Robin (William) Louvain; grandchildren, Ryan (Heidi) Louvain, Travis (Rebecca) Louvain, Eric Welch, Amanda (Brian) Bertig and Emily Welch; six great grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley (Gary) Cox and brother-in-law Robert Peri; nieces and nephews. Howard was pre-deceased by his wife Fanny M. Welch and granddaughter Stephanie Welch.

Howard grew up in Geneseo and attended Geneseo High School. In the early years, after graduation, he worked as a milk tester, a Tower Man Telegrapher for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and a part time Deputy for the Livingston County Sheriff’s department before settling in for a nearly 40-year career with the airlines out of Rochester. He first worked at Mohawk Airlines followed in succession with Allegheny, Piedmont, and USAir, retiring in 1999 from US Airways.

On May 31, 1958, Howard married the love of his life, Fanny Sands, who he called his angel. He and Fanny enjoyed many wonderful years together raising their family, traveling extensively throughout the US and overseas and, in later years, wintering in Haines City, FL until Fanny’s passing in 2013.

Howard was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in East Avon. He was also a member of Phoenix Lodge 115 F.& A.M., a Masonic lodge. Howard loved a good laugh and poking fun at those around him, especially during his years at the airlines. He never steered away from a good political conversation or debate. His love of family and friends was always felt by all who knew and loved him.  He will be greatly missed.

Bartow, FL/Sparta, NY:  At age 70, Dan passed peacefully on January 20, 2024 at Good Shepard Hospice in Auburndale, FL.  He was born on October 3, 1953 in Clifton Springs, NY to parents William and Ann Ruth (Havert) VanOoyen.  He was predeceased by his mother Ann Ruth VanOoyen.  Survived by children; Laurie (Sean) Friedo of Bozeman, MT and Jake VanOoyen of Marion, NY; granddaughter Hanna Friedo; loving companion Maxine Murray; father William VanOoyen; siblings, Karen (A.C.) Ophoff of MI and Eric (Nancy) VanOoyen of East Palmyra; also survived by nieces, nephews, and many other loving family and friends.

Dan grew up in East Palmyra, and attended Newark High School and later lived in Marion and Sparta, NY where he worked heavy construction before permanently moving to Bartow, FL where he spent his retirement years.  He was a member of the Operating Engineers and could operate (and fix) just about anything out there.    He never left home without his tools and could help you fix anything.  He made a hobby out of adding his own personal touches to everything and often referred to them as “Danning it up.”  Very little of what he bought stayed as the factory made it and he was always innovating to make things work better for him.  He loved a good laugh and poking fun at those around him, especially Buffalo Bills fans and was never steered away from a good political conversation or debate.  Anyone who knew Dan was very aware that Ford was the only truck out there worth anything. Although he loved spending time outdoors hunting in his younger days, Florida weather quickly became his favorite and he loved to fish year round there.  When neighbors needed help he was always there to lend a hand and loved to chat with anyone.  His Faith kept him going knowing that God was in charge and he would often end conversations with his kids saying “The good Lord is still on the Throne”.  His love of family and friends was always felt by all who knew and loved him.  He will be greatly missed.

Sodus: At age 65, Lila passed away on January 17, 2024. She was born on April, 1, 1958. Survived by her husband; Kurt Bethmann, Daughter; Kim, grandsons: Marcel and Elijah. Honeoye Falls: Carol Schaffner, died peacefully at home at the age of 91 on January 10, 2024.  She was predeceased by Clair, her husband of 64 years, their son Scott and her brother, Donald Lowdermilk.

Carol was raised in Uniontown, PA, daughter of Orie and Alta Lowdermilk.  She graduated from Juniata College with a BS in elementary education.  Carol and Clair met in college and married in 1954.  They moved to the Geneva/Seneca Lake area where they raised their children: Diane (Mike) Karlsen, Bonnie (Clif) Wright, and Lori (John) Scherer.  She was blessed with grandchildren: Jessica (Mike) Ripple, Shawn (Theresa) Wright, Abby (Shawn) Dunphy, Stacey (Tyler) Monnat, Colby Wright, Morgan and Dylan Scherer; and GREAT grandchildren: Hayden and Maya Ripple, Logan Wright, Cooper and Riley Monnat.  Being with her family was where she was the happiest.

Carol was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Geneva and was a volunteer in many community organizations. She moved to Pinehurst in Honeoye Falls, NY and made many good friends.

In keeping with Carol’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, she leaves you with Matthew 25:40 – whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.  So, “give from your heart.  Do what you can to help someone else. Give of your time, talent, or money, to a place where you can make a difference.  Do a kind deed to make the world a better place.  Take someone to lunch, make a phone call to someone who may be lonely, visit a shut-in, give to someone in need.”

Lakeville/Rochester: When her earth time was over, Rosalind passed on January 9, 2024, for eternal life. She passed peacefully at home after enjoying a day with her daughter and playing cards with her fellow bridge enthusiasts.

Preceded by mother Marion Lindsay LoDico and father Joseph Richard LoDico, sister Terryl (John) Heneghan, daughter Kimberly Smith Freund, and her husband Charles Acker Smith. Survived by son Charles (Deborah) Smith, daughter Pamela (Craig) Smith Perkins, son-in-law Gregory Freund, grandchildren Tatiana and Alexis Freund, Matthew Stromecki, and Ariana Smith, and sister-in-law Betsy Bardee Nichols. Also survived by extended beloved family – Susan, Richard, Sally, Douglas, and Mark, as well as countless nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.

Rosalind grew up in Rochester’s 19th Ward and graduated from West High School.  Following high school, she attended the University of Rochester and Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing. As an RN she worked in the ED at Rochester General Hospital. She was a dedicated nurse and remained active in the alumni association throughout her lifetime.

After moving to Conesus Lake/Lakeville she met and married her husband. Eventually she worked alongside him in their family business which became a longtime staple in Lakeville.

Her connections and impact on people can be seen in the community she built within her neighborhood, church, and beloved bridge group at St. John’s. Rosalind also spent her younger days volunteering with religious education, the local food pantry, and as a member of the Garden Club.

Rosalind was a gracious and welcoming host to all, and she delighted in entertaining others. Her artistic side came out in all her preparations and her attention to detail. She so enjoyed the company of others and they in turn so enjoyed her.

The beauty Rosalind saw in life came from her passion for animals, nature, theater, and being with her family. When one thinks of Rosalind, it is impossible to overlook her appreciation for the little moments. The memories her loved ones hold are her smiles during a boat ride on Conesus Lake, her fresh homemade sauce at a family dinner, and her giggles when holding a new puppy in her lap.

Mostly though, it was her love of family and friends that will be most missed and cherished. They gave her great joy and she was sure to let each one know how much love she had for them. She will always be remembered for her kindness, her love, and her tender care.

Livonia: At age 79, Sole passed away on January 7, 2024. She was born on February 13, 1944 to the late Jose and Angelica Loayza. Soledad grew up in Arequipa, Peru. She was extremely proud of her heritage, and her home city. Her extraordinary beauty and sense of style was only exceeded by her unmatched work ethic and fierce sense of independence. Upon moving to the UnitedStates, Soledad immediately took two jobs and excelled at both of them. She spent over 40 years providing care and comfort to residents of the Conesus Lake Nursing Home. Her kindness and dedication to her patients will long be remembered by their families.

Soledad left an impression on everyone who met her, radiating elegance, charm, and kindness. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

Rush: At age 90, Allen passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at his home in Rush. He was born on May 4,1933 to the late John and Marion Cole. Allen is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Cole; his son, Scott Cole; and his siblings, Alice Loomer, Ron Cole and Jack Cole. Survived by his sons, Michael (Melody) Cole and Mark (Tracie) Cole; his grandchildren, Christie (Brent) Currie, Jillian Cole, Kasey (Maxwell) Richardson, Scott (Kelly) Cole, Valerie (Issiac) Hartunen, Christina McCartney, and his 4 Great grandchildren, Luna, Cole, Bowdie Allen & Olivia along with several nieces and nephews.

Livonia: Sally Elizabeth (Owen) Rosicka peacefully departed this world on Monday, January 1, 2024 at the age of 84. Sally is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Rosicka and parents Thomas and Margery Owen. She is survived by her sister; Virginia (Alphonse) Philippy, children; Thomas (Donna) Rosicka, Daniel (Whitney) Rosicka, Joseph Rosicka lll, Rhiannon (David) McDevitt, and Sarah (Thomas) Thorjusen. She is also remembered fondly by her 7 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Born in Rochester, NY in 1939, Sally graduated from Rush Henrietta Central High School in 1956. She was an active Girl Scout and 4-H member, earning accolades for her exceptional skills in baking and sewing. She then went on to attend Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where she was a proud member of Chi Omega Sorority. Sally graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1960.

During her senior year at Wittenburg University, she met her future husband and love of her life, Joseph. They were married shortly thereafter in St. Mary’s Church in Canandaigua, NY. Sally and Joe returned to Springfield, Ohio where she lived for 20+ years, raising her children and aided her husband in the running of the family paving business, Springfield Blacktop. She was a devoted mother, supporting all her children’s interests or activities and staunchly encouraged her children, never missing a game, concert or event. Sally greatly treasured her time with her grandchildren later in her years.

Sally and family returned to New York in the early 1980’s. Sally and Joe’s marriage was a testament to enduring love, lasting almost 40 years until Joe’s passing in 2000.

For more than 20 years, Sally worked for Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Service Office. She held various roles during her tenure there always serving with great compassion and great care. Incredibly intelligent, informed and multi-talented, Sally was an avid reader and frequent patron of local libraries. She was a skilled seamstress, cook, baker and gardener. Her green thumb could bring any plant back to life and all plants thrived from her attention.

Sally’s kind heart, selflessness, humility and quirky humor touched many lives. Many will remember Sally for her kindness and the way she naturally put people at ease in her company. She was an uncommonly strong woman who was fiercely devoted to her husband and their five children. Her legacy continues in the memories we hold and the example she set with her infinite patience and consideration for others.

While her passing brings sorrow, the knowledge that she is now at peace with God provides solace to those who mourn her departure. “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word” Thess. 2:16
