Eleanor Marian Trescott (Wood) – August 29, 2020

Livonia:  At age 92, Eleanor passed peacefully at her home on August 29, 2020.  She was born on March 1, 1928 in Livonia, NY to the late William and Marian (Payne) Wood.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Donald H. Trescott and son Roger D. Trescott.  Survived by children; Jane (Gregory) Safran of Geneseo, Glenn Trescott of Livonia, James (Elaine) Trescott of Rush, Gary (Christine) Trescott of Scottsville, Scott (Delena Sloane) Trescott of Prattsburgh, and Judy (Bob) Kelly of Livonia; grandchildren, Stephen Safran, Thomas Safran, Alyson Trescott, Adrienne Trescott, Craig (Maureen) Trescott, Joshua Trescott, Erin Trescott, Jason Trescott, Chad Trescott, Adam (Molly) Trescott, Brandilea Singh, Ketura (Joseph) Cole, and Matthew Kelly; great-grandchildren, Danielle Trescott, Jillian Safran, Oscar Trescott, Akaal Singh, Jinevra Singh and Daphne Cole.  Also survived by many other loving extended family and friends.

Eleanor was born in South Livonia and lived her entire life in Livonia.  She and husband Don raised seven children in the village and were involved in many organizations including the Lima Grand Squares, the Livonia Grange, the Livonia Historical Society and the Genesee Country Museum where she and Don both worked as interpreters of Living History.  In addition to her raising seven children, Eleanor was an excellent wallpaper hanger and beautified many of the homes in the area.  Eleanor was an extremely creative and talented sewer and made beautiful ball gowns and uniforms for historical reenacting. She also created lovely quilts and did very fine needle work in a variety of mediums.  She was a lifelong member of South Livonia United Church of Christ and volunteered many hours to the church over the years. Eleanor enjoyed singing as a member of numerous choirs, traveling, and looking for garage sale treasures.

Sandra L. Powless “Sandy” ~ August 31, 2020

Livonia: At age 78, Sandy passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, August 31, 2020 at her home in Livonia. She was born in Nunda, NY to the late Glenn and Zylphia Harrington. Survived by her children; Karen Davis, Kristie Davis, Joseph (Stephanie) Powless, her siblings; Glenn “Charles” Harrington, Robert Harrington, Gerald (Shirley) Harrington, Sharon Hooker, Constance (George) Kenney, Richard (Joyce) Harrington, Edwin (Brenda) Harrington Deborah (Harkey) Rice, her grandchildren; Brandon Michael Davis, Thomas Paul Smith Jr., Katrina Smith, and her great grandchildren Madison Donnelly and Adelyn Davis, along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
Sandy embodied the vision of a good mother and her greatest joys in life was her family. She was full of wisdom, compassion and love. She was a kind and generous spirit. Her warmth was felt by everyone who she came in contact with. Her humility and thoughtfulness was one of her greatest attributes. She enjoyed playing the piano and the comfort of a good book.

Philip I. Schultz  “Phil” – August 29, 2020

Geneseo:  Phil passed peacefully at his home on August 29, 2020 at age 56.  He was born on May 14, 1964 in Rochester, NY to the late Philip and Geraldine (Smith) Schultz.  Survived by his wife of 33 years, Tammy (Preston) Schultz and children;  Adam (Ashley) Schultz of Leicester, Eric Schultz (Samantha Vanbuskirk) of Geneseo, Aaron Schultz (Amelia Harrison) of Piffard and Cory Schultz of Geneseo;  grandchildren, Austin, Preston, Kailani, Logan, Bella, Ava, Connor, Avery, Colt, and Ashton; siblings, Donna (Terry) Lawrence, Kim (Ron) Haynosky, and Mark Schultz; also survived by many other loving family and friends.

Phil grew up in Avon, NY and worked for Iler Motors in Avon for many years.  If it had an engine he could fix it and Phil enjoyed helping others.  He was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  The family wishes to thank Livingston County Hospice for the care they provided, especially Leath and Serena.

Steven J. Ruderman “Steve” ~ August 23, 2020

Farmington:  On Sunday, August 23, 2020, Steve Ruderman, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Mt. Morris, NY. He was 78 years old.

Steve was born on January 24, 1942 in The Bronx, NY to the late Jack Ruderman and Augusta Siegel Ruderman.  He went to The Bronx High School of Science and graduated from New York University where he majored in English and Education. He later received his Master’s in Communications from Framingham State University. He spent his summers in Parksville, NY where his grandparents owned a hotel. Steve was married in 1963 and had two daughters, Dara and Michele. Steve lived in Yorktown for many years where he raised his daughters and opened Aquarius Communications and Copy-Rite printing stores as well as a used book store. Steve was a Councilman in town and was very involved in local politics. He later moved to New Bern, NC to teach English and film at Pamlico Community College in Grantsboro where he received the Outstanding Instructor Award. Steve later retired and moved closer to his grandchildren in Farmington, NY as well as a brief stay in Bethel, CT.

A curmudgeon with a rebellious nature, Steve was always willing to listen with an open heart and give his non-judgmental advice. He never met a dog he didn’t like and loved to spoil his grand-dogs. Steve loved to garden and started vegetable gardens for the residents in his senior living apartments and later at his nursing home.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Jack and Mother, Augusta. He is survived by his daughters Dara Pavia (Frank) and Michele Hunt (John), grand children, Jessica, Hudson, Zachary, Jackson, Jordan, Jessica, Jailyn and great granddaughter, Aria, his sister Marcia Smith, cousins Barbara Krongel, Michael Krongel, Harvey Siegel, Jeffrey Siegel, Stephan Siegel, nieces Janine and Lisa and nephew, Mott, as well as many close friends.

A memorial service will be held for family in Parksville, NY next month. James A. White – August 17, 2020

James A. White of Livonia, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2020. He was 74.

Born July 20, 1946, he was the son of the late T. Arthur “Art” and Anna Marie “Ann” (Lacey) White. Jim attended Honeoye school before serving his country honorably as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force from 1963-67.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patricia, and brother, Dale. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail (Fugle) White, and sons, James (Leslie) White of Fairport, and Brian (Mindy) White of Livonia; grandchildren, Leah, Alex, Joe (Anija), and Libby; sister, Kathy Rowley; aunts, Lois Brisbane and Betty White; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was also survived by the Fugle Family, which he considered his “second family,” and he cherished each of them.

He and Gail were married May 30, 1964 and they lived in Oklahoma while he served in the military. They moved to Rochester for two years before settling in Livonia in 1971. Family was always Jim’s priority and he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

For 36 years Jim was a dedicated employee of Eastman Kodak Company, where he was a mechanical technologist. He worked in instant film, clinical and engineering and was awarded 17 patents before retiring in 2003. He then went on to work at Infotonics for four years.

When his sons were young, Jim volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and Little League baseball coach. He was a member of South Livonia United Church of Christ and bowling leagues at the former Brongo Bowl. He was an avid golfer, mainly at Conesus Golf Club, though he rarely turned down an opportunity to play at other courses in the area.

He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, and always had a project — the largest being construction of his first home. Though if someone else had a project, he was more than willing to lend a hand to help a friend.

Patricia J. Matthews “Trisha” ~ May 3, 2020

Livonia: At age 68, Trisha passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born in Queens, NY to the late; William and Elinor Howard. Trisha is predeceased by her husband; Elmer Matthews. Survived by her children John (Carmen Amparo Lecca-Rock) Rock, James (Kimberly Holland) Kennedy, Jennifer (Brent Fategoni) Kennedy, her grandchildren; Elizabeth Kennedy, Amelia Fategoni, Jericho Fategoni, her sisters; Elaine Miller-Roy, Marilyn Howard, Linda Carlson, and Carolyn Ruettgers .

Trisha loved nature, she enjoyed being out side watching birds, tending to her garden. She loved all animals, especially cats and owls.  She loved to can her own fruits and vegetables from her garden and was an amazing cook.  Trisha was a history enthusiast, especially when it came to local history.  She will be greatly missed.

Geraldine P. Deane “Gerry” ~ April 19, 2020

Fairport: At age 85, Geraldine passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was born in Canandaigua, NY to the late John and Clela Powers. Gerry was predeceased by her husband of 45 years; Jackie C. Deane. She is survived by special cousin William (Mary Jo) Ingraham, godchild Jeffrey Ingraham and Jamey Ingraham. Also, cousins Stephanie Butler and Richard Ingraham. Nieces: Patricia & William Quagliata (Billy and Michelle), Suzanne & Denny Trask (Todd/Jennifer and Benjamin), Kathleen & Dale VanNort (April & Ricky), Laurie Lunn Stevens (Ryann), Roxanne & Paul Hayes (Erin, Zoe, Hannah, Joanna). Nephews: Todd (Jennifer) Trask, Deane Park, Timothy Park, Kevin & Karen Lunn (Jennifer and Ashley) Ethan & June Deane (Seth & Hannah). Geraldine was a graduate of SUNY Geneseo. She went on to work as a teacher in Penfield, NY at Indian Landing for over 30 years.

Gerry was always on the go, ready to join friends for golf, cards, mahjong, stitching, gardening, or lunch. She enjoyed travel, jazz music, attending plays, and visiting museums. She never made it past an ice cream stand!

Keith C. Alexander ~ August 6, 2020

Livonia/Conesus Lake:  At age 86, Keith passed peacefully on August 6, 2020.  He was born on January 3, 1934 in Rochester, NY to the late Gilbert and Florence (Hall) Alexander.  Survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara (Cole) Alexander and children; Karen (Dave) Coty of Livonia, Kay (Tom) Kouvatsos of Sarasota, FL, and Ken (Kelly) Alexander of Nunda; grandchildren, Richard Alexander, Katrina (Justin) Helmus, Eleni Kouvatsos, Stephanie Kouvatsos, Jay (Tanya) McGregor, and Jeff McGregor; siblings, Shirley Ward and Brian Alexander; and many other loving family and friends.

Keith graduated from Edison Tech in Rochester, NY in 1953 and later served in the US Army from 1956-1958.  He retired from SUNY Geneseo where he worked as a mechanic for over 25 years.  Keith liked building and making things.  He enjoyed living on Conesus Lake and was known for building docks.  Keith was a member of the Livingston County Antique Car Club and was a lifetime member of the Livonia Masonic Lodge.

Phyllis K. Walls (Benjamin) – August 4, 2020

York/Elmira, NY:  At age 98, Phyllis passed peacefully on August 4, 2020 at Morgan Estates, Geneseo, NY.  She was born on February 19, 1922 in Towanda, PA to the late Richard and Tessie (Elliott) Benjamin.  She is also predeceased by her siblings; Betty Niemann, Janice Shaffer, Meylert Benjamin, and Carol Benjamin.  Survived by her children; Charles McCabe (Shirley Gleockner) of Elmira and Susan (Victor) Ducot of Mumford; grandchildren, Robert Watkins, Tara (Ron) Wall, Kristian Ducot, and Nicolas Ducot; great-grandchildren, Michael, Vinny, and Carys Wall; and many nieces & nephews.

Phyllis lived and worked in Elmira for many years.  After graduating from high school in 1940 she attended secretarial training and later became an executive secretary for Elmira Savings Bank for over 20 years.  Family was very important to Phyllis and she was “Nana” to many.  During her life, she always enjoyed painting. She won many awards for her artwork and sold numerous paintings over the years.

Edward D. Holmes “Ned” – July 31, 2020

Hemlock:  At age 85, Ned passed peacefully on July 31, 2020.  Ned was born on April 14, 1935 in Syracuse, NY to the late Duane and Ruth (Leiterman) Holmes.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise (Derushia) Holmes; daughters, Elin (Jeff) Orman of Hemlock and Alison (Steve) Simpson of Victor; grandchildren, Erika (Thomas) Callahan, Hannah Orman, Sarina Simpson, and Garrett Simpson; sisters, Barbara Hippensteel and Nancy Harrison; several nieces, nephews, and many friends including his Honeoye UCC Church family.

Ned attended and graduated with a BS and MS from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY which led him into a 37 year career with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.  After his dedicated career he retired as the Natural Resources Supervisor at the DEC Region 8, Avon, NY.  He was involved with the Livingston County Center for Dispute Settlement as a mediator for 25 years, the Genesee Valley Greenway Board, Fiddlers of the Genesee, was a mentor for youth through Catholic Charities, and was also active on numerous church boards and was a past board member for the American Wildlife Research Foundation.

Ned was always on the go and had many interests. He was an avid cyclist, touring North America and Europe. He climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro at age 73 to raise money for cancer research, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition, Ned was a member of the Genesee Valley Aeromodelers Club.  Ned enjoyed sharing his passion of nature with others, actively mentoring youth in outdoor activities.
