Mary A. Foster McCarron – October 19, 2010

Avon – Rush: Mary A.Foster McCarron formerly of Avon and Rush, NY died in Conn. October 19, 2010. Mary was born in Rochester the daughter of Raymond and Lillian Curbin Corcoran. Her first husband, John Manciocchi Foster and Mary owned and operated the popular resturaurant and party house in Avon, known as Foster’s Restaurant. Mary and John were very successful with their business, enjoying regular clientele, travelers, service clubs, fire departments and many others in a long list of loyal patrons over the years. Many weddings, anniversaries, clambakes and other public and private functions were held at their establishment as they enjoyed a great reputation of serving delicious food and fair prices with always enough for everyone to eat in a comfortable environment. The Foster’s were always consistent and never became complacent, were very personable and enjoyed great relationships with a tremendous number of people and organizations throughout the area. Both Mary and John were honored on a regular basis by local Rotary and Lions Clubs and local fire deparments and emergency squads along with chuches, auxiliaries etc. They maintained much of the same help over the decades with their help often being high school and college students that Mary and John reached out to, to provide work to pay for school.

Life, however, was not always the best for John and Mary, especially when in 1962, they tragically lost their youngest child, John “Jackie” Foster in a tragic hit and run accident on Routes 5 and 20, not far from their restaurant and then home. Several years of investigation followed with no charges ever made. After that, life for the Foster’s was never quite the same. Howevever, they manged. They did their best, and the whole community ached for them over this painful loss. The restaurant did continue on, as succesful as ever, with the Foster’s being even more supportive than ever before of the communities they served. It was not until the the mid to late 70’s that new plans for Interstate 390 surfaced which concluded Mary and John’s successfull restaurant business and home in East Avon. It was truly a sad day when the state acquired both their restaurant and adjacent home and demolished them. A wonderful era would come to an end. Mary and John located their new residence on Route 15 in Rush, NY with Mary and John remaining active in food service at the University of Rochester, and Camp Stella Maris. Mary and John also enjoyed their home away from home at Henderson Harbor in the Thousand Islands in Northern NY State. After a period of declining health, John passed away in the early 1990’s. Following that, Mary married former Livonia businesman John “Mac” McCarron and they would maintain their residence in Rush full time prior to relocating to Alabama and a warmer climate. It was during this time Mary lost her second child Raymond, and of course was devasted by that. Following Mac’s death in in 2004, Mary eventually took up residence with her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and David Rothrock.

Besides Mr. Foster and Mr. McCarron, and her two sons, Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Ann Stenzel and Lillian Gendreau. Jean and David Rothrock of Conn., survive along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, Raymond Corcoran of Rochester, NY and many nieces and nephews.
