Helen Jane Rombaut – January 31, 2023

Conesus/Avon:  At age 102, Helen passed peacefully on January 31, 2023 at home in Avon, NY.  Predeceased by her husband Edmond “Eddy” Rombaut, daughter Carol Peters, sisters Alice Hornberger and Elma Rombaut, and son-in-laws Chester Peters and John Duryee. Survived by children; Donna Smith of West Virginia, Elma (Ron) Reed of Conesus, Joyce Duryee of Avon, and Keith Rombaut (Michael Cobb) of Rochester; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.

Helen spent 36 years enjoying Conesus Lake at her cottage on DaCola Shores which ultimately became a year-round home.  There she spent precious time with her husband Eddy, her children, and eventually their families.  In the summer you could find Helen driving the boat while her kids skied behind!  You could also find her playing the organ at home or at the Conesus United Methodist Church every Sunday for many, many years.  Helen loved to knit as well.  She made socks, hats, blankets, mittens and much more for friends and family. She donated many of the mittens she knitted to the church every year.  One year she made 100 for the church!

After Helen retired, she enjoyed spending time with Eddy riding along in his tractor trailer.  Helen also enjoyed spending time bowling in leagues with friends and watching baseball.  Especially the Yankees!

George R. Sweazy Sr “Dick” – January 30, 2023

Mt. Morris: George passed away on Monday January 30, 2023 at the age of 82. He was born in Pontiac, MI to the late George and Kathryn Sweazy. George is survived his his loving wife of 48 years Dorothy Sons; Eric, Randall, George (Patti) Sweazy; step-daughters, Deborah (John) Zyglocke, Tracy (David) Lortscher, brother; Tom (Ann) Sweazy, sister Shirley Gillies,11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

James R. Waden “Pee-Wee” ~ January 29, 2023

Livonia, NY:  At age 73, James R. Waden passed peacefully at home on January 29, 2023.  He was born on January 24, 1950 in Rochester, NY to the late Louis and Betty (Carpenter) Waden.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Roger Waden.  Survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia (McCaughey) Waden and children; Kimberly (Chris) Wigley of Avon and Eric Waden (Jane Tam) of Avon; grandchildren, Ryan Wigley, Derrick Wigley, Johnathan Kellen, and Julianna Waden.  Also survived by sister-in-law Laura Lee Waden of Wayland, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jim, Pee-Wee to many, worked at Industrial Ceramics in Lima, NY for many years.  He enjoyed gardening, hunting, was a Cleveland Browns fan in good seasons and bad, and above all he loved his family and grandchildren the most.

Paul A. Guadagna ~ January 28, 2023

Honeoye:  Paul passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at age 65.  Born in Buffalo, NY to the late Paul and Helen Guadagna, he is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Karen (Kochems) Guadagna; his son, Paul Guadagna; his daughter-in-law, Roxanne (Renaud) Guadagna; his grandchildren, Paul F. Guadagna and Carissa Guadagna; his brother-in-law, Gary Kochems; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

Paul enjoyed golf, puzzles and games/cards, but most of all enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.

James H. Seeley ~ January 24, 2023

Canadice NY: James was born on August 14, 1951, and passed January 24, 2023 surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his parents, Harry & Josephine Seeley.

Survived by his loving wife, Stephanie and his beloved sons Stephen (Emily), Cody (Lexi Swift); grandchildren Arya-Grace and Owen. As well as his loving sister, MaryLynne Parmelee along with several nieces and nephews and extended family.

Working as a mason for over 40 years; Jim was never afraid of a hard day’s work to support his family. He also wasn’t afraid to serve his country, when he enlisted in the Navy and served for 3 years.

Jim loved hunting and fishing with his boys as they grew up. Jim was always up to take his sons out on their land to get a mounting worthy eight point buck every season. Fishing was another passion of Jim’s, whether it was on Honeoye Lake or Black Lake, he was there with the boy’s catching bass, pike, sunfish, perch-you name it. Stephen and Cody will cherish those memories with their father forever.

Jim was loved by so many. He always looked forward to going to the Hemlock Sportsman Club to see his dearest friends. It wasn’t hard for him to bring a smile to their faces. There was never a dull moment when it came to Jim, he always had something smart or funny to say about anything and everything. He will always be remembered at the club and there will always be a seat saved for him with a can of Busch beer, just as he would have wanted.

Jim Seeley will be remembered for his kind heart, love for his family and ability to bring light wherever his life took him. His family and friends will grieve his loss and he will be missed dearly. Jim left his mark on this Earth and the hearts of many loved ones. Rest in peace James H. Seeley, you will never be forgotten.

George Gary Catt – January 21, 2023

Honeoye, NY — Gary Catt, 77, of Honeoye, NY died January 21, 2023.  He was born December 6, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina, the son of the late Elizabeth Ann (Valko) Catt, Ortolani. He was raised in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964. He served in multiple foreign duty stations for three years before being discharged with the rank of SP/5. Following his discharge, he attended photography school in New York City. It was a vocation he never pursued professionally, although he remained an avid amateur photographer throughout his life. He began his professional career as a journalist first with the Pottstown (PA) Mercury where he won several statewide reporting awards before moving on to the former Reading (PA) Times where he filled multiple reporting and editor positions over a dozen years including covering state government from Harrisburg.

After moving to New York, he worked at editor positions in several metropolitan newspapers and newspaper chains.  He put journalism aside in the early 1990s to join the public communications arm of Saatchi and Saatchi, the global advertising agency, where he rose to be senior communications counsel. His client base included several divisions of DuPont, Kodak Professional, Frontier Communications, and others including Wegmans.

He was a former chairman of the Varick, NY Town Planning Board, a member of the Cayuga Lake Watershed Network, the Honeoye Valley Watershed Assoc., American Legion, the Canadice Lake Writers’ Group and Ontario County Republican Committee.

In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Lee Hunsberger of Douglassville, PA and Dagsboro, DE and is survived by his sister Joan Ann (Catt) Hawkins of Douglassville, PA.  He was the father of 2 children, his daughter Elizabeth Catt, his son Christopher M. Catt (Alexis Ogra) of Victor, NY and their soon to be born daughter, as well as six nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind his beloved Jack Russell, Patch.

Catherine L. Hollenbeck “Cathy” – January 20, 2023

Hemlock: At the age of 66, Cathy passed away at Strong Memorial Hospital on Friday, January 20, 2023. Catherine was born on April 18, 1956 to the late Milton and Helen Hollenbeck and was raised in Geneseo N.Y.

Cathy is predeceased by her sisters; Donna Shepard, Phyllis, Elizabeth Moore, Bernice Echevarria, and Judith Handy; and brother, Joseph Hollenbeck.

She is survived by her daughters; Tammy Bryant, Sarah (Chad) Jachimowicz; son, James (Megan Thompson) Northrop, grandchildren, Brianna, Hunter, Bradley, Dominic, Isaac and Olivia, along with several nieces and nephews.

She married and raised a family in Honeoye, New York. In 2000 Cathy remarried and relocated to Hemlock where she spent her remaining years. Anyone that knew Cathy knew how much she love she had for her grandchildren and also her fur babies. Cathy spent her days drinking coffee with her neighbor Karin, spending time with her grandbabies and more recently learning to video chat with her granddaughter Olivia.

Palmyra/Newark:  At age 92, Virginia, Ginny, Gram and GG to many, passed peacefully on January 17, 2023.  She was born on June 27, 1930 in Palmyra, NY to the late Abraham and Alta (Russell) Pieters.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband of 47 years, Cornelius “Case” Geldorf, beloved sons, Stephen and Gary Geldorf, her second husband Hugh VanStaalduinen, siblings, Richard Pieters and Lenora Facer, and son-in-law Scott Lush.

Ginny loved spending time with her ever-growing family.

John D. Haak II – January 16, 2023

Lakewood, CO/Livonia, NY:  John David Haak II was born on December 11, 1979 and passed on January 16, 2023 at age 43.   Predeceased by his paternal grandparents Chet and Rosemary Haak.

Survived by parents John and Robbyn Haak of Livonia, sister Jenifer Haak of Colorado, maternal grandparents Norm and Jean Sparks, niece Emma Haak and his best canine friend Tiny.   Also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

John graduated from high school in 1998 and went on to earn his Associates Degree in Architecture.  He was also designated a Certified Graduate Builder by the National Association of Home Builders.  John worked in construction most of his life and some of his many talents included fine carpentry, house and barn building and operating heavy equipment.  He also worked designing trusses for a major company in Colorado.  John was very artistic and creative and had a love for gardening.  His absence will forever leave an emptiness in our hearts.

Mary E. Lynn – January 14, 2023

Livonia, NY:  At age 83, Mary passed on January 14, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.  She was born on October 9, 1939 to the late John and Edna McCarthy.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Reginald “Reggie” Lynn Jr.  Survived by daughter Joanne Neu and son Christopher Lynn; grandchildren, Christopher (Val) Lynn, Killian (Caroline) Neu, Devlynn (Bel Welgan) Neu, along with several great-grandchildren, good neighbors, and friends.

Mary was married to Reggie for 64 years before his passing in 2021.  In years past she was active with 4H and the Cub Scouts.  She worked at the Livonia School District and later worked and retired from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in Avon where she worked as a secretary in the fisheries division.

Mary and Reggie enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and spending time at their second home in McAllen, Texas.  Their home in Livonia was well taken care of and was a standout having beautiful flower and rock gardens.  She enjoyed quilting and taking care of her cat, Mac.  Mary loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Susan D. Forest – January 12, 2023

Mt. Morris:  At age 67, Susan D. Forest passed peacefully on January 12, 2023 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY.  Sue was born on September 1, 1955 in Rochester, NY to the late Leo and Bernice (Morrow) Paul.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her son Sean Smithson and siblings; Linda Drake and Joanne Martinez, Bobby, Mike, and Sheila Paul.

Survived by her daughter Dawn (Randy) Worden; grandchildren, Joseph Worden, Morgan Worden (Jesse Stanley), Ashley Worden (Chase McDonald), John Smithson (Zoe York) and Dustin Smithson (Makayla Miller); great-grandson Noah Joseph Stanley and siblings, Joyce Blackburn, Heather (Wayne) Fuhry, and Kathleen Paul, and her companion dog Harley; also survived by nieces and nephews including special niece Hayley Offen.

Sue enjoyed playing online games with her many friends, spending time with her children and grandchildren, spending time with Harley, and spoiling her great-grandson.  Having lived in Texas for many years, she always had a fondness for there and was hoping to go back someday.  Sue also enjoyed dancing, playing darts, and bingo.

Bernardino Surita “Bernie” – January 12, 2023

Dundee, NY: At age 78, Bernie passed away at home on Thursday, January 12, 2023.  Bernie was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to the late Bernaber and Antonia Troche -Surita. Albert F. Brinkerhoff – January 10, 2023

Conesus Lake:  Albert Frank Brinkerhoff passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 10, 2023 at the age of 82.  He was predeceased by his parents, Albert S. and Cora Will Brinkerhoff of Dunkirk, NY and nephew, State Trooper, David C. Brinkerhoff.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary, sons Bert (Mary Beth) of Avon, Todd (Rita) of Springwater, grandchildren Mariel, Grace and William, his brothers Roy (Ruth) of Williamsville and Richard (Linda) of Trinity, Florida and many loving nieces and nephews.

Bert lived a life serving others and was a volunteer firefighter for most of his life wherever he and Mary made their home.  For many years he was a NYS Fire Instructor and served as a Fire Commissioner for the Town of Livonia.

While teaching public grade schools he was a high school football coach for several years.  In 1974 Bert and Mary moved their family to Avon and Bert taught for 25 years at the NYS School at Industry in Rush.  He taught math and science, and used his carpentry skills to teach students these same skills during the summer programs.   He built his own home in Avon and with the help of his sons, totally renovated his home on Conesus Lake.

He enjoyed a second career with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department spending many years as the Sergeant of the Marine Patrol and was a NYS Boating Safety Instructor.   He loved being on the water whether it was teaching boating safety, helping boaters or just chatting with others enjoying the lake.

His biggest joy was his family. He never missed his sons or grandchildren’s ball games, school concerts, and dance recitals.  He loved spending time on the lake driving the boat with the family, teaching his grandchildren to drive all watercraft, fishing, tubing or just sitting on the porch enjoying a cold beverage.  Bert was a very engaging person who loved good jokes, laughing and debating with his many friends.

Dear family, friends and Hospice aides provided much loving care, companionship and love during his journey through Alzheimer’s which he accepted and lived with grace.

Clifton Springs:  At age 73, Harry passed away peacefully with his family by his side at his home in Clifton Springs on Saturday, January 7, 2023.  He was born in Canandaigua, NY to the late Stuart and Mary Washburn. Harry is predeceased by his brothers Stuart W. and George W. Washburn, sisters Betty J. Washburn and Rose Mary Rice, stepmother Dorothy Washburn, half-sister Jannette King, and a stepbrother.

Survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Laura M. Avon: At age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home in Livonia, NY. She was born in Hamlin, NY. June is predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard A. DeClerck and by her grandparents who raised her, Mart Boyd and Pearl S. Fox. Survived by her daughter Laurie (John M.) Haubner and by her grandchildren, Kimberly Haubner, John R. Haubner and Sarah Haubner.

Maureen McAuliffe “Mema” ~ January 5, 2023

Honeoye, NY/Jupiter, FL: Maureen was born on October 19, 1946, to Fred and Agnes (Gallagher) Sailer, and grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She attended Saint Patrick’s School and Notre Dame High School in Bridgeport before moving on to receive her bachelor’s degree at Western Connecticut State College in Danbury, Connecticut. Later she received her master’s degree at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.

Maureen married Timothy McAuliffe on May 30, 1970, and started their family in Bristol, Connecticut living among neighbors who were the start of families that would become friends for life. The family moved to Penfield, New York then Marietta, Georgia and back to Penfield again where she worked as a middle school reading and math teacher in Henrietta, New York for 15 years. Living in Penfield she and Tim found friends and neighbors that became family. Upon retirement Maureen and Tim enjoyed the warmth and sunshine of winters in their Jupiter, Florida home and summers at their beloved lake house on Honeoye Lake. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her garden and nature, and loved travel, all of which she instilled in her children and grandchildren. But Maureen’s greatest joy was her family, friends, and her Catholic faith. Her lake house was always full of warmth and kindness, inviting all to find calm and serenity with her there.

Maureen became our angel January 5, 2023, at the age of 76. She was surround by her adoring husband Tim, married for 52 years, and her four children Kerry (John) Timmins of West Palm Beach, Florida, Kelly (Jack) Murray of Horseheads, New York, Colleen McAuliffe of Penfield, New York and Tim (Deana) McAuliffe of Victor, New York. She was a proud and loving Mema to her nine grandchildren Cameron, Kendyl, Aidan, Luke, Katie, Maddy, Ryleigh, Timmy, and Joey. Maureen is predeceased by her parents Fred and Agnes Sailer. She is survived by her sister Patricia (Billy) Panetta of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and her brother Fred (Suzanne) Sailer of Stratford, Connecticut and many loving nieces and nephews.

We find Maureen’s best traits in those she leaves behind; her warm smile, her caring heart, her love for God, and her wonder and delight in the world around her. We will miss her greatly. Maureen’s family also kindly requests that you share your memories of her with her family and grandchildren often, to keep her memory alive.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church in West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Here in Honeoye, Maureen’s Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Monday, July 24, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 8961 Main Street, Rte 20A, Honeoye. Honeoye: At age 61, Tony passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at his home in Honeoye, NY. He was born in Portsmouth, NH.  Tony is predeceased by his mother, Marlene Guarino. Survived by his father, Philip Guarino; children, Emily (Marcus Connell), Allison (Michael) Johnson, Sydney Guarino, Mallory Guarino, Kelsie Guarino, Shelby Guarino and Chevelle Guarino; his siblings, Phillip (Ginny) Guarino and Cheryl (John) Post; along with his granddaughters, Julia Johnson and Jade Johnson.
