Shane Paul Gascon – February 13, 2021

Springwater, NY:  On February 13, 2021 at age 51, after a long hard battle with his health Shane passed away peacefully with his wife and their children by his side.  He is predeceased by his father Ole Gascon.  He is survived by his wife Lisa Gascon of 32 years, his children Colton (Charlea) Gascon Cohocton, Caly (Jeremiah) Bowen Dansville, his two beloved grandchildren Aiddan Gascon his best buddy, and Aubrey Gascon his Doo. His mother Lois Gascon who he loved so very much. His siblings Deborah Schoonover Canaseraga, Susan (Larry) McKinney Dansville, Marty (Daisy) Gascon Fillmore, Teresa (Dana) Moore Birdsall, Cory Gascon (Tara Lehman) Canaseraga. Many nieces and nephews. Many dear friends who were like family, and many people who looked up to him as a father figure in their lives.

Shane was born on September 23, 1969 in Canandaigua, New York. He was the fifth of six children to Ole and Lois Gascon. He resided in Springwater his whole life “up on the hill.”  He had a heart so big, such a giving selfless soul. He was a family man before anything else. He was so proud of the life that him and Lisa built together. Family meant the most to him, but his love for the outdoors was a close second. Shane was so full of life, always smiling, always laughing and cracking jokes. He touched everyone in such a positive way.

Shane was a popular guy, his phone would ring countless times in a day. So many people looked up to him and leaned on him in good times and bad. He would get phone calls about, big bucks and money fish, many times phone calls from people asking advice on how to call in the stubborn turkey or what bait to use. He loved it, he loved being there for people.

He had a love and passion for the outdoors. Every chance he got he was in the woods, on a lake, laying a trapline, treeing racoon with his hounds or standing in a stream. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the same love and respect for the outdoors. His favorite place to be was sitting up against a tree in the spring listening to the gobble of a big ol’ tom turkey get closer and closer to him.

Shane had a slight obsession with Skoal straight, chartreuse jigs, Canada Dry, lasagna, old westerns, Enticer Turkey calls, Escanaba in da moonlight, and his sister Debbie’s molasses cookies.  He was a fighter that’s for sure. He faced serious medical issues for years but stayed positive through it all, and never felt sorry for himself. He used to say “I wake up everyday with a smile on my face thankful to be alive.”

He wasn’t ready to go, but his body was so tired. Shane would want every person that he has touched along his life’s journey to not be sad right now but remember the good times, look for him in the rivers, and streams. Watch for him in the sunrise and the sunsets of each day because he will be there. He hasn’t gone far, he just went further into the woods.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a date and time to be announced.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hunt of a Lifetime Inc., P.O. Box 241, Harborcreek, PA 16421.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

Dianna Lynn Shumaker ~ January 23, 2021

Honeoye: Dianna Lynn Shumaker (née Snow), of Honeoye, NY, originally of Clarion, PA, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on January 23, 2021.Dianna was a source of strength, light and love to all who knew her. Out of a childhood marked by struggle she transformed her experience into a life of deep compassion, limitless generosity, steadfast faith – and quick-witted humor. In addition to being a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was a gifted artist, an avid gardener, a successful entrepreneur, a star bowler, a talented craftsman and antique restorer, an expert cook and baker, a rescuer of abandoned animals, and much more.

What mattered most to Dianna were family and home. In the Shumaker household, Christmases were filled with carols, her famous homemade cookies, family games, and a tree piled high with presents for the family. Halloweens were always celebrated in costume and in a fully decorated home for friends who might stop by. Thanksgivings and Easters were times for gratitude and celebration, and July Fourths hosted fireworks displays in the backyard. Not just on holidays but year-round, the kitchen was always open, and she was not content until everyone was well fed.

Despite her early struggles, or perhaps because of them, Dianna lived abundantly, and sought to impart her life lessons and values onto her children and grandchildren: those of hard work, determination, optimism, love of the outdoors, love – and humor. Her laughter was infectious, and she never took life, or herself, too seriously. She had a unique ability to light up a room and transform the simplest moments into lasting memories. Her warmth and openness drew many close to her, and she became a surrogate mother to many young people as well as the numerous animals she rescued over the years.

In her later years, Dianna became acutely aware of the finiteness of this life and did not fear what was to come in the next. She passed on with contentment over a life well lived and with trust in a loving Creator. Although her departure creates a void in the hearts of those she leaves behind, she will live on in the spirits and memories of her children, grandchildren and husband as well as the countless people whose lives she touched.

Dianna was born on September 11, 1946, to Retha Donna Stewart Winters (née Shick) and David Snow. When her mother remarried, Dianna came to view Retha’s husband Donald Winters as her father. She attended Clarion Area High School, during which time she met her future husband Terrence. The young couple married in 1965 and briefly lived in Vienna, VA, before resettling in Chili, NY, then Honeoye, NY, where they restored the 1840s farmhouse on Pinewood Hill Road in which she lived until her passing. After raising her children, she worked as a photo retouching technician and manager at Varden Studios in Rochester, NY, and ultimately left the company to grow her own successful photo retouching business in the 1990s. Later, she took turns as a pharmacist assistant, a chocolate pretzel factory manager, and a realtor – all while keeping her family together and making her house a home – before retiring a few years ago.

Surviving Dianna are her husband, Terrence Shumaker, and her three children: Donna Lynn Rosicka (Thomas Rosicka), Terry Shumaker (Che’rie Morehouse Shumaker), and Jeffrey Shumaker (Robert McCouch). Also surviving her are her three grandchildren – Jessica Ainslie, Taylor Worner and Zachary Shumaker – as well as her extended family. She is preceded by her mother and father as well as her brother, Dennis P Stewart.

Visiting hours with her family will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 12:00-3:00pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 8624 Main Street in Honeoye, NY 14471, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00pm. Owing to COVID 19 restrictions, capacity will be limited to 70 persons. Burial will take place at Deanville Cemetery in Deanville, PA, on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 11AM.

Today Becomes Tomorrow too Fast!
Have you noticed how quickly today becomes tomorrow?
Where does the time go?
Days fade into weeks, weeks to months and months to years.
Meanwhile, we carry on and continue to fill our time with daily tasks.
We hope that tomorrow will be just a little better than today.

Tomorrow
I’ll take that extra day off.
Tomorrow
I’ll go fishing
Tomorrow
We can take that special vacation.
Tomorrow
I’ll relax and finally notice all those great people who surround me.
Things will definitely be better tomorrow.
“Tomorrow is another day”

Today we take the time to appreciate and celebrate

a man who means so much, to so many.
He was and is so much to, so many.

He touched our lives in so many ways.
The Man, who stole my mother’s heart
The Father who raised 4 children who all have their individual memories to hold.
The Grandpa who loved to teach his grandkids about fishing and hunting.
The Great Grandpa who loved watching the kids grow and learn.
The friend who would give the shirt off his back to help you out.

You CAN NOT change yesterday!
However, we know this man is in a better tomorrow.
Today became tomorrow in the blink of an eye.
Make a fresh start in your tomorrow Dad.
Be free of pain and worry.
Rest in peace Dad.
May God Bless you and keep you.
