Stephen “Steph” H. Sellinger ~ September 10, 2021

St. Augustine, FL/Livonia, NY:  At age 78, Steph passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in St. Augustine, FL. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 4, 1944 to the late Murray and Jean Sellinger who taught him to follow his dreams.

Steph is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judy Long, 11 foreign exchange student sons and daughters they hosted, his brother Lewis Sellinger, nieces Anna (Pete Langway) Sellinger, Donna Sellinger, Becky Sellinger and Sequoia Sellinger, his sister-in-law Denise Long (Mark Lorenzen) and sister-in-law Dana Keefer, his cat Hobie, as well as many cousins and his nephew Skipper Singer. He was predeceased by his parents and his half sister and brother-in-law Marilyn (Louis) Singer and his nephew Harvey Singer.

Steph attended Brooklyn College where he met many lifelong friends. He was a surveyor for the building of the World Trade Center. He ran his own business, Jack of Hearts Silkscreen Designs for many years and then went back into the regular work force where he used his training in Geology and construction as a Construction Inspector for a private company and then worked with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in several different capacities.

Steph had a wide range of interests. He loved to travel, to learn about religions of the world, to geocache, to learn trivia, to sail, to play with his kitties. He was an avid outdoorsman, a gardener, a volunteer fireman, a musician and washtub bass player, an environmentalist, a community activist, a merchant mariner, a craftsman and silk screen printer, and he was always ready for an adventure. He was a wonderful host dad and loved by his family and friends.

When Steph and Judy moved to the Hudson valley in 1996, they joined Nyack Boat Club and started sailing in earnest. They both became Coast Guard Master Captains and embarked on a ten year life of cruising the US East Coast and Bahamas in their sailboat, along with their cat Hobie.

Steph was helpful, compassionate, thoughtful, shy, giving, loving, funny and a real jokester.

Due to COVID and Stephen’s far-flung friends and family, the first celebration of his life was largely a Zoom event. It was attended by his entire family and many friends. Many of them and all of Stephen and Judy’s exchange students participated by sending memories to read at the service.

Now Judy and Hobie the Cat are having 8 Celebrations of Steph’s Life for Steph’s Magical Memorial Mystery Tour.

Kathleen “Kathy” Ann McGowan ~ September 5, 2021

Livonia:  At age 72, Kathy passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.  She was born in Rochester, NY to the late Charles and Elizabeth McGrath.  Kathy is predeceased by her son Robert McGowen. Survived by her husband; Robert McGowan Sr., her sons; Matthew McGowan, William McGowan, Ray Zoroufie, and her brother John McGrath, along with her 4 grandchildren; Robert, Mackenzie, Tyler, and Ethan.

Martha Louise Nelson Knight ~ September 5, 2021

Brighton: At age 84, Martha passed peacefully away Sunday, September 5, 2021.  Born in Wrights, in McKean County Pennsylvania on March 13, 1937, the second daughter of Mary (Cook) and Ralph Nelson. She had resided in Brighton, living with her daughter for the past 5 years, having moved there from Port Allegany. Martha was a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1954.

A gifted musician, she co-owned a music store in downtown Port Allegany, soon after high school, and taught piano lessons for many decades, bringing the love of music to hundreds of students. She was a newspaper reporter, photographer and columnist, retiring approximately 7 years ago. She served all who read the Buffalo Courier Express, Olean Times Herald, Wellsville Daily Reporter, and the Port Allegany Reporter Argus with intelligent and insightful reporting about the events in their communities. Martha was a member of the AHRC in Allegany County and was passionate about bringing inclusion into the lives of disabled individuals. She was involved in the Democratic Party, including campaigns and raising awareness of issues. An artistic, creative person, she was a partner in the Lumen-Essence Stained Glass Studio, and her sketches assisted with bringing many beautiful stained glass lamps and windows to life, including windows in churches in Oramel, Olean and Port Allegany.

In her later years, she opened her home to people who needed shelter or a room to rent, and helped to deliver Meals on Wheels.  Marti shared her knowledge of technology with others through her business, Sound Ideas.  She was also a member of Port Allegany Planning Commission, Garden Club, the Senior Center and the Portage Valley Cemetery Association. Recently, she greatly enjoyed keeping in touch with people online, via Brighton Next Door, Facebook, Port Allegany Remember When and similar sites.

She is survived by her children, Dona Joi Freeman, and Nelson Wade (Shelley) Jewell, and her step-son, Tristan Speeth, her grandchildren Michael (Danielle) Jewell, Alyssa Jewell, Samantha (Ravi) Jewell, and Jewell Freeman. She is also survived by her sister, Sylvia (Mahlon) Davenport, her nieces. Susan (Ed) Harper, and Carey (Barry) Boyer, and her nephew, John Davenport. She will be remembered by many other relatives and friends.

Janny A. Barger  –  September 5, 2021

Canandaigua: At age of 78, Janny passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, NY.  She was born in Vianen, the Netherlands to the late Antonio and Gijsberta Binnenveld.  Survived by her beloved husband of 56 years; Ralph V. Barger, her daughter, Ide (Daryl) Marshall, her granddaughter; Samantha Marshall, Christina (Allen) Green, grandson; George Marshall and her siblings; Bep Mueller, Annie Florie, Franz Binnenveld, Greet Zijderveld along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sometime in the early fall of 1963, Ralph went into the Spitfire Bar near Camp New Amsterdam, the Netherlands and first met the love of his life, the most beautiful girl in Holland, Janny.  Ralph and Janny were married on February 7 th the following year and had a child, Ide.  There were many moves and adventures to follow, Ralph traveled because of the Army and civil service while Janny kept the home fires burning.  Janny always mentioned that this was her “20 th something” move and it was going to be the last move but it never was until today.  Janny was one of seven children and very resourceful and read a lot and ate buttermilk and potatoes.  Throughout her life, she always gave 110%.  In her career, she was a nursing assistant and touched many lives and brought home many stories about her work.  She was also a beloved nanny who raised her “kids” as her own and loved them very much.  She will be missed very much by all her family and friends.  Her last move occurred on Sunday @ 11:30 am and may she rest in peace.

John C. Cucinotta ~ September 3, 2021

Geneseo, NY:  At age 89, John passed peacefully on September 3, 2021.  He was born on May 24, 1932 in Mt. Morris, NY to the late Marco and Josephine (Sciortino) Cucinotta.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings; Catherine, Rose, Joseph, Anthony, Peter, Michael Jr., Frank, Delores, and Francis “Willy.” Survived by his children; Michael (Mary Beth) Cucinotta of Buffalo and Kelly (Mark) Monteleone of Livonia; grandchildren, Marco, Daniel, and Loretta Cucinotta & Cara and Nina Monteleone; sister-in-law Serena Cucinotta; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Early in his career, John was a dedicated teacher at Attica, Livonia and Mt. Morris. In his later years, he was an operating engineer with the Local 832 Union of Operating Engineers. Upon his retirement, he spent winters in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Richard T. Emery “Dick” – August 31, 2021

Livonia, NY:  At age 87, Dick passed peacefully on August 31, 2021.  He was born on August 10, 1934 in Rochester, NY to parents James and Ruth (Wamser) Emery.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings; Carolyn Allen, Kathryn Ramsey, and Robert Emery.  Survived by his wife of 64 years Roma (Colburn) Emery and daughters; Suzanne Emery, Michele (John) Coakley, and Pamela Noveck; grandchildren, Amanda (Timothy) Ulm, Ashley Coakley, Andrea (Michael) Golder, Tess Noveck, Alexis Noveck, and Eric Noveck; great-grandchildren, Rowan, Alexandra, and Liana Ulm; siblings Ruth Sidorowicz and James (Sandi) Emery; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dick was a loving and beloved member of his family, his church, and his community.  After a stint in the Army where he began his teaching career at West Point, he taught in Penfield and then became a BOCES administrator.  Upon retirement, he and Roma spent many fun-filled years travelling the world and enjoying friends.  His later years were spent eagerly anticipating visits and conversations with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a lifetime member of the Livonia Fire Department and Livonia Rotary Club.  You could always count on his avid support of the Livonia Bulldogs, St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Browns.  Dick was honest, kind and true and filled his heart with love throughout his life.  He was loved by all who knew him and his memories will bring grateful, loving tears to all who hold him dear.

Michael Joseph Barnhoorn ~ August 31, 2021

Honeoye Falls:  Michael Joseph Barnhoorn, age 60 of Honeoye Falls, peacefully passed away on August 31, 2021, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Loved ones that will miss Mike until they meet again include his daughter, US Army Staff Sgt. Suzanne W. (Patrick) Beardslee, one grandson, Flynn E. Beardslee; four siblings,  twin brother, Daniel J. (Andrea) Barnhoorn of Scottsville, Stephen A. Barnhoorn of Honeoye, Bart J. Barnhoorn of Honeoye Falls, and Toni (James) Sloan of Avon; two nieces, Nickki L. Barnhoorn (Russell Johnson) and Lydia A. (Christopher) Wright; two nephews, Elliott J. Guthrie and US Army 2nd Lt. Christopher W. Barnhoorn; great-niece and great-nephews; and many cousins in the Netherlands and Texas.

Mike’s life story began on August 2, 1961, as the oldest twin son born to the late Bart J. and Rebecca Y.M. (Wilcox) Barnhoorn at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.  The childhood years for Mike were spent growing up with his siblings on Honeoye Lake and at the family home on White Road in the Town of Richmond.

On June 22, 1979, Mike and his twin brother Dan graduated from Honeoye Central School.  During his school years, Mike was a member of Boy Scout Troop 10 in Honeoye, Rocket Club, and the Wrestling team.  Following graduation from high school, Mike was the Store Manager at the former Treble’s Red and White, Honeoye.  In addition, Mike also worked part-time as a bartender at the Briarcliff Room restaurant.

In 1987, Mike moved on to another job as a Punch Press Operator at Stever-Locke Industries in Honeoye Falls. At the time of his passing, Mike was a 25-year employee at Star Headlight & Lantern Company in Avon as head of the Metal Fabrication Department.  Throughout his career, Mike was highly regarded and valued for his strong work ethic.

Over the years, Mike resided in West Bloomfield, Canadice, Scottsville and Honeoye Falls.  An avid gardener like his late father, Mike was known for his green thumb.  He also enjoyed ice fishing, hiking, hunting, collecting antiques, watching football games on Sunday afternoons, and most importantly, spending quality time with family.  On the lighter side, Mike had a colorful, robust sense of humor, enjoyed pulling pranks, and making people laugh.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 11AM on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021 at St. Mary’s Church, 8961 Main Street in Honeoye, Rev. William F. Laird, officiating. Stephen Barnhoorn will deliver the eulogy. Royce B. Holt “Roy” – August 29, 2021

Avon, NY:  At age 82, Roy passed on August 29, 2021 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY.  He was born on June 25, 1939 in San Francisco, CA to the late Herman and Alice (Leismann) Holt.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Jeannette Hinckle and Cindy Vandenberg, whom he loved dearly.  Survived by his son Michael (Leanne) Holt of Hemlock; grandson Jephtha Holt; several friends and neighbors.

Roy served in the US Marines from 1956-1966 and later resided in Avon, NY for many years.  He worked at the Avon True Value Hardware and also at Smith Lumber in Lakeville.

Edna H. Kurtz ~ August 29, 2021

South Lima/Honeoye Falls:  At age 93, Edna passed peacefully on August 29, 2021.  She was born on September 30, 1927 in Chicago, IL to the late Carl and Marie (Fauth) Brehm.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Norbert Kurtz, son Robert “Bobby” Kurtz, and daughter-in-law Linda Kurtz.  Survived by children; David J. Kurtz Sr. (Regina Collins) and Diana (Jim) Ellison; daughter-in-law, Harriet Kurtz; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, with one more due in September; siblings, Rose Marie Perkins and Carl (Judy) Brehm; and many nieces and nephews, and friends.

Edna was payroll supervisor at Champion Products in Livonia and Geneseo for many years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed 3 years in Florida with husband, Norbert, until he passed.  She then lived independently until almost 5 years ago, when she moved back north to live at Pinehurst in Honeoye Falls, where she made many friends.

She was a very strong, caring mother with a dedicated faith in our Lord. She enjoyed her church family in Florida, gardening, puzzling, and crocheting. She found a great deal of enjoyment in her grandchildren and great grandchildren and in her aides at Pinehurst. She will be greatly missed by many!

Donald B. Angevine – August 28, 2021

Conesus Lake: Don passed away peacefully Saturday, August 28, 2021, at age 85, with family at his side.  He was born on June 7, 1936 in Rochester, NY to the late Franklin and Letitia (Clancy) Angevine.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Mary Elizabeth “Sue” (Schwartz) Angevine and sister Shirley Evans.

Survived by daughters Donna Martinez and Mary Ellen (Gregory) Schottmiller, and son Mark (Stephanie) Angevine; siblings, Frank (Catherine) Angevine, Vivian McManus, and Verna Nelson; brothers-in-law, Rev. James Schwartz and Honorable John R. (Linda) Schwartz; sisters-in-law, Anne Hill and Jean (Robert) Hood; grandchildren, Kyle, Zachary, Molly, Katie, Mikayla, Thor, and Milo.  Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.  Including special caregivers Jennifer Bowser, Robin (Roland) Dean, and Sandra Willis.

Christina R. Kranz ~ August 26, 2021

Livonia: At age 36, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at her home in Livonia. She was born in Dansville, NY to Thomas and Cynthia Kranz. Christina is also survived by her siblings; Anna Kranz, Jonathan (Abigail) Kranz, Teresa (Hae Sung) Kang, Caleb Kranz, Matthias Kranz, Timothy Kranz and Andrew Kranz, her grandparents; Gerald and Roberta Smith, along with her aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, niece, and friends.  Christina is predeceased by her grandparents; Maynard and Mary Kranz.

Jesus called Christina to Himself at a young age and she devoted her life to diligently seeking after Him. She lived out the Gospel by how she loved and served her family, church, community, the unsaved, and beyond. Jesus was her reason for everything she did. Her delight in the Lord was evident in her smile, how she befriended everyone, cared about her parents, and loved and supported all her younger siblings. She enjoyed the outdoors whether it was planting and weeding the garden, hiking, hunting, canoeing or camping out. She was talented in drawing, painting, pottery, and jewelry making. Her passion for caring for others was clearly evident in how she served many through her years as a Nurse and Nurse Midwife. Between the hospital, home birth and overseas missionary settings, she delivered over 450 babies, touching each family with gentle, tender care. She is a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend, and most of all, Daughter of the King. She leaves a beautiful legacy of loving well and living out the Gospel.

Wayne G. Semmel – August 25, 2021

Geneseo:  At age 83, Wayne passed peacefully on August 25, 2021 in Warsaw, NY.  He was born on February 22, 1938 in Brighton, NY to the late Harold and Ethel (Vickers) Semmel.  Wayne attended Geneseo Central School and married Joanne L. (Ferrell) Semmel on November 7, 1959.  Wayne retired in 2000 from the Geneseo Town Highway Department where he worked for over 30 years.

Raymond “Ray” C. Pfenninger ~ August 25, 2021

Penelope Lynn (Horan) Imburgia ~ August 25, 2021

Irondequoit:  at age 48, Penny passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August, 25, 2021 at her home in Irondequoit. She was born in Rochester, NY to Robert and Anne Horan.  Penny attended Honeoye Central School and graduated from Livonia Central School in 1991. She was predeceased by her father Robert J. Horan, Jr. and leaves behind her mother Anne B. Horan, daughter Isabella Imburgia, son Gioachino Imburgia, sister Jill (Horan) Spencer, brothers David and Andrew Horan, and many friends and extended family.

Her light and creativity lit every room she entered. She loved fiercely, and worked endlessly for the benefit of her children. She enjoyed art, music, and nature. She will be missed and remembered for her smile, laughter, and loving spirit. May all who knew her carry these traits into the world in her honor.

Herbert “Herb” R. Miller ~ August 24, 2021

South Lima:  At age 76, Herb passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at his home in South Lima, New York.  He was born in Rochester, NY to the late Grover and Rose Miller.  Herb is predeceased by his wife; Rose Marie Miller, and children; Barry and Craig Quackenbush.  Survived by his siblings; Gus Miller, Ronnie (Ann) Miller and Sonia Miller, his children; Dale and Brent (Shelley) Quackenbush and his 6 grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

Marjorie M. Farrell – August 22, 2021

Chazy, NY/Avon, NY:  Marjorie M. Farrell, 76, passed away, Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the Essex Center in Elizabethtown, NY. She was born in Rochester, NY, on March 27, 1945. After retiring from Strong Memorial Hospital as a receptionist, she enjoyed tending her flower gardens. She is survived by her three sons Shawn Farrell, Shannon Farrell, and Keith Farrell. She is also survived by her brothers Leonard, Donald, Peter, Lester, Michael, and sisters Lois, Lillian, Rosemary, Joanne, Elnora, Diane, Carol Ann. She is predeceased by parents Peter Wheeler and mother Myrtis (Teed) Wheeler.

Floyd D. Ellsworth “Bucky” – August 20, 2021

Melbourne, FL/Avon, NY:  August 20, 2021 at age 84 years.  Bucky was born on April 19, 1937 in Malone, NY to the late Harold and Luella (Rinehart) Ellsworth.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Patricia Ellsworth, his daughter Donna Ellsworth, and his beloved dog Rosie.

Survived by children; Dana (Lorraine) Ellsworth of Brushton, Brenda (Ron) Beach of Caledonia, Cathy Ellsworth of Batavia, Laurie (Tom) Hungerford of Retsof, Mary (Dick) Smultz of Brushton, and Floyd Ellsworth II of Avon; 12 grandchildren, Ronnie, Chris, John, David, Nathan, Danielle, Josh, Ethan, Nicole, Shane, Colin, and Brady; many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Bucky was an independent dump truck driver for years making numerous friends and helping in the maintenance of trucks.

Michael F. West ~ August 19, 2021

Wilson, NC/Livonia, NY:  After devoting 54 years to the love of his life, his high school sweetheart Susan; pouring his heart into five decades of fatherhood with dad jokes and antics aplenty; cherishing every moment as a beloved Grampy always up for an adventure, Mike West of Wilson, NC died at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC on Thursday, August 19, 2021.

Mike spent his 72 years building a family with Susan and impacting lives wherever he went. He began his extensive professional career at Rochester Products in Rochester, NY before enrolling at Elim Bible Institute in Lima, NY to receive training for ministry. His first pastoral assignment brought him to a small church in Canton PA, followed by a move to Williamsport, PA where he served 10 years as pastor of Agape Fellowship. Subsequent to his cherished time in the church, he returned to his engineering roots spending 13 years at Kidde Aerospace in Wilson, NC where he discovered his passion for Continuous Improvement motivating him to pursue and receive his MBA from Regent University, one of his proudest achievements. Mike advanced his passion at Sikorsky Helicopters in Coatesville, PA, and eventually retired from Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, DE in 2017, becoming a full time Grampy and Mustang enthusiast. Whether furthering his education, making memories with his family, or preaching the Word of God…his zest for life was apparent.

If you have ever met Mike West, you would know he was a hardworking man who always put his family and love of Jesus first, finding joy in all the little things, like a perfect slice of chocolate cake. He will be missed immensely and never forgotten. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty and his son, Todd. He is survived by his wife Susan; daughters Leslie, SuAnne, and Molly (Mark Aldrich); son Matthew (Emily) ; father Francis; brothers Brian (Sandy), Daniel (Karen), and Frank (Wendy); sisters Barbara and Colleen Hay (Earl); mother-in-law Frances Ball, sisters-in-law Jackie Peck and Cindy Prunier (Joe), 7 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

A private family viewing is scheduled for Friday, August 27, 2021 at Joyner’s Funeral Home in Wilson, NC. A graveside service and burial will be held privately at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Livonia, NY.  Local arrangements entrusted to the Kevin W.
