Janny A. Barger  –  September 5, 2021

Canandaigua: At age of 78, Janny passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, NY.  She was born in Vianen, the Netherlands to the late Antonio and Gijsberta Binnenveld.  Survived by her beloved husband of 56 years; Ralph V. Barger, her daughter, Ide (Daryl) Marshall, her granddaughter; Samantha Marshall, Christina (Allen) Green, grandson; George Marshall and her siblings; Bep Mueller, Annie Florie, Franz Binnenveld, Greet Zijderveld along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sometime in the early fall of 1963, Ralph went into the Spitfire Bar near Camp New Amsterdam, the Netherlands and first met the love of his life, the most beautiful girl in Holland, Janny.  Ralph and Janny were married on February 7 th the following year and had a child, Ide.  There were many moves and adventures to follow, Ralph traveled because of the Army and civil service while Janny kept the home fires burning.  Janny always mentioned that this was her “20 th something” move and it was going to be the last move but it never was until today.  Janny was one of seven children and very resourceful and read a lot and ate buttermilk and potatoes.  Throughout her life, she always gave 110%.  In her career, she was a nursing assistant and touched many lives and brought home many stories about her work.  She was also a beloved nanny who raised her “kids” as her own and loved them very much.  She will be missed very much by all her family and friends.  Her last move occurred on Sunday @ 11:30 am and may she rest in peace.

Friends and family are invited to call at 10am on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 8624 Main Street in Honeoye, where Janny’s memorial service will immediately follow at 11 am.  To share a memory of a condolence, please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com .

  1. Ide, Daryl, and all the family. I am deeply sorry for your loss. May you treasure all the great memories and help ease your sorrows.

  2. My condolences to the family. I did not know my aunt very well, but I was always proud to tell people I had an aunt living in America. She will be missed.

  3. Elletts in Virginia send love & more. For new friends/old friends; I have pages to write about the special duo-team ,Janny & Ralph. “Support” was always there in my eyes. We go back to Sept 1973 when they hosted us for our first meal (Dutch eggs breakfast) in Southern Belgium. It was in a lovely home in the older parts near La Louvre. I have tons of pictures, memories, and stories. Like Ralph meeting us (6am) at Brussels Airport in his black French Citiroen – like De Gaul would have been seen in. That 9/25th day was dark, foggy (heavy), and rainy – a normal BE day. Janny adopted our little while 10 pound Lasha Apso dog very quickly. We always had a free dog setter for our many weekend trips. We were over 25 and newly married. Janny was more than a jewel-friend-host and someone to know. When my sister & her husband, then my mother and father visited BE … The Barger Family were the first family to meet and enjoy Janny’s hospitality.

So Ide, Sam and Ralph should tell all those in New York how Janny was a lover of: flowers; garderning; convertible sports cars; kids; home renovations in Milford; years of camping; entertaining family/ friends/ Ralph’s office co-workers (Bowie MD); travel and much more. Martha Stewart could have learned from her cooking and decorating/home making. If we ever meet …. I will share More. love, Jim
