Fred I. Seeley – September 29, 2019

Geneseo/Lakeville:  September 29, 2019.  Beloved father, grandfather, teacher, and football coach, died after an extended illness.  Predeceased by father, Harry Seeley, and mother, Helen (Crandall) Seeley, of Wellsville, N.Y.  Survived by wife, Marilyn (Finn) Seeley; son, Scott Seeley, daughter, Stephanie (Michael) Pizzo; grandsons, Luke and Jacob Seeley, and Michael Pizzo, Jr.; Brothers-in-Law, Rick (Sue) Finn, Thomas (Jane) Finn, and Sister-in-Law, Maureen (Finn) Rohde; nephews, William Rohde, Sean, Patrick, and Michael Finn, Ryan and Josh Finn, John Costik and Fr. Michael Costik; nieces, Jennifer Rohde, Michele (Costik) Pettis, and Chantal (Costik) Travaglini; and several grand-nephews and nieces, friends, extended family members, and many former students and players.

Fred graduated from Wellsville High School and SUNY Brockport with a bachelor’s degree in Education; he completed his post-graduate work at SUNY Geneseo.  Fred taught Mathematics for 33 years, 28 at Geneseo Central School. As Head football coach at Geneseo HS (NY), from 1970 to 1981 he coached teams to two Livingston County Division 1 Championships, four Livingston County Division 2 Championships, and one undefeated season; Fred won two R.T. French Coach of the Year Awards, and led the team to a final State Ranking of #4 [small school poll (NY) before the playoff system].  He also originated the tradition of the annual Valley Ball rivalry game between York and Geneseo, a tradition that continues to this day.

Family and friends may call on Monday, October 7, 2019 from 9am-11am at (NOTE LOCATION) St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6591 Richmond Mills Road, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY where Fred’s Funeral Mass will be held at 11am, following calling hours.  Burial at 2:30pm at Temple Hill Cemetery, Geneseo, NY.   In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, is preferred.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com
