Harold F. Barnard – November 22, 2018

Honeoye:  November 22, 2018 at age 83 years.  Predeceased by his granddaughter Jennifer Marshall and by his life-long love and best friend Marilyn VanHarken.  Harold is survived by his children; Randy (Susan) Barnard of GA, Julie Barnard (fiancé George Ballish) of Hamlin, and Bob Barnard (Cindy Robinson) of Honeoye; grandchildren, Devon, Ross, Jacob, Kristjana, Michael, Katie (Geoff), Leah, Jonah, Chrissy (Allen), and George (Sarah); many great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews, and many friends in the Honeoye Community.

Harold was born on August 9, 1935 in Perinton, NY to Michael Jay and Helen (Farrell) Barnard.  He served our country in the US Army from 1953-1956 and was a devoted member of the Honeoye-Hemlock American Legion Post 1278 for over 40 years.  Harold was very proud and honored of traveling to Washington, DC with Honor Flight Rochester in 2015.  He also was a dedicated member of the Honeoye United Church of Christ.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, November 29 th , from 4-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 8624 Main Street, Rte 20A, Honeoye, NY.  Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday, November 30 th , at the Honeoye United Church of Christ, 8758 Main Street, Honeoye, NY 14471.  Spring burial Lakeview Cemetery, Honeoye.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Richmond Ambulance, PO Box 469, Honeoye, NY 14471 or to the Honeoye United Church of Christ at the address above.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

  2. Barney was a wonderful friend to anyone he met. His bright smile and warm laugh made everyone feel he truly cared for you.
    His greatest love was for his family. He always had a special story regarding the milestones in their lives.My prayers to his immediate family and his family in the community.
    I will miss him greatly.

  3. I am sorry to hear of Harold’s passing. I have many fond memories of family gatherings at the lake when I was growing up. Most of all I will remember him for the worlds best hugs and big smile. My condolences to the family.You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  4. He was one of the greatest men I knew. As a child I got to spend many summers, winter breaks at his house with my cousins. It was the best time of my life. You always held a special place in my heart. I love you. May you rest in sweet wonderful peace.

  5. Harold was a special person. He was always following the Honeoye sports teams. He really enjoyed watch the teams grow throughout their high school days and many on to college. His smile and laugh will be sorely missed by many of the families and children in our community. He was so proud to have gone on the Honor Flight; thanks for your service to our country, may you rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers to his family and love ones.

  7. So sorry to hear of Harold’s passing. His smile and laughter was infectious! Loved serving with him at various times giving honor to other deceased veterans. When you needed help – Harold was there. My deepest sympathy to the family.

  9. I will miss seeing Harold in the stands at basketball games this winter. He was such a wonderful man who always went out of his way to say hello to me and ask about my kids. He will be missed.

  11. What a special man Harold was! I moved in just across the street from him last Spring and he was the first one to come over and welcome me. He gave his friendship freely as I am certain he did for many in Honeoye. I only knew Harold for a short time but I will miss his smiling face very much. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with the Bernard family during this sad time.
