Tanya Marie Olsen (Kellogg) – June 8, 2024

Honeoye, NY:  At age 52, Tanya passed on June 8, 2024, as peacefully and gracefully as she did everything else, at Light Hill Comfort Care Home in Canandaigua, NY.  She was born on May 9, 1972 to parents Robert and Diane (Ketchum) Kellogg.  Tanya was predeceased by her mother Diane Kellogg.  Survived by her husband Mark Olsen and children; Friend (Amanda) Olsen of Victor, Quinn Olsen of Fredonia, Jewel Olsen of Honeoye, and Zara Olsen of Honeoye.  Also survived by her father Robert Kellogg, many cousins, and friends.

Tanya’s disdain for monotony led to a myriad of professions. From graphic designer to library manager, through stay at home mom, goat farming, and venturing off into the world of teaching, she was always a catalyst for change. Willing to reinvent herself at every turn, she taught all grade levels at different points during her career at several schools in the Finger Lakes region. The art classes she led were her way of inspiring creativity within every child.

She brought her love of nature to everything she did. Her graphic design style, outdoor hobbies and even her teaching reflected a synergy between her life and the natural world.

  1. I met “Mrs Olsen” when volunteering in the library in Dundee Elementary (her art room was across the hall from the library) where my daughter was the librarian. Her art room was joyful, with centers full of creative activity, and her mounted displays in the hallway were beautiful, thoughtful, respectful displays of children’s artwork. The students thrived in that environment and all were sad to see her go. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends.???

  2. Mrs. Olsen was an amazing art teacher. She has even purchased my Van Gogh sculpture I made and I remember feeling shocked that anyone would’ve wanted my art and she was so encouraging and supportive to me (and many others at Marcus Whitman). She was such a ray of light and space of love. Wishing your family and her soul peace and comfort?thank you for everything Mrs. Olsen

  3. I am so very sorry Mark. Tonya was such a wonderful person!!! I am so blessed that we grew up together. We had lots of fun back in the days. Watching you and Tanya grow into your relationship during track was fun. So very blessed that we were able to catch up briefly at the track and cross country meets. Prayers to you and your kids.

  4. Tanya was amazing. We collaborated together during the pandemic. She was my rock during that time of uncertainty. When I heard of her fight, I saw her survivorship as an inspiration. I will miss her terribly.

  5. Although I wasn’t blessed to know Tanya personally, she seems like a beautiful soul, and raised wonderful children who I consider to be dear friends. I hope she rests in peace and I’m truly sorry for your loss

  6. Tanya was an incredible person whose kindness and light showed in everything she did. She raised wonderful children who share so many of her qualities and she will be so missed by all who knew her. I feel so blessed to have known her, if only for a short time. Sending all of my love to her family.

  7. I am so very sorry and sad to hear this news. Tanya was a beautiful person, and artist. My heart goes out to her family.

  8. We are so sorry to hear of Tanya’s passing. We send our condolences to all who loved her. I went to school with Tanya and my daughter had her for an art teacher in elementary school. My daughter loved her as an art teacher as my daughter has a great love for all things art. I’m grateful for her nurturing my daughter love for it and for all she did for her. She was a wonderful teacher and role model for all her students.

  9. I worked with Tanya many years ago at The Daily Messenger. She was one of the sweetest people there. Everyone enjoyed working with her. I am so sorry for your family’s loss and will keep you in my prayers.

  10. My first impression of Tanya was envious in nature…I remember meeting her when Friend and my son Trevor started preschool together, and thinking I wanted her wardrobe, lol! So effortless, so flowy, so colorful – just like her! We remained in each other’s circles as the boys went through school, co-hosting team dinners for XC, carpooling our kids, friend-group bonfires. News of her cancer was devastating, but throughout it all she stayed positive, determined to fight it…and for over two years she did. Her spirit remained unbeaten through multiple treatments and the ups and downs, she never failed to smile. Her passing will leave an awfully big hole in the Honeoye community. Warmest hugs to the family.
