Deb and family: so sorry to hear that Heiko has passed. I worked with him for many years at Castle Co. and we did a little partying at Al’s Meadows and other places. Last time I saw him, you were putting in windows at your place on Densmore. I think I was riding a bicycle instead of the Harley. Heiko was one of those friends, that in spite of not seeing each other for many years, the next time you see each other, it’s like no time has passed and you’re still good friends. I met his brother Jan, at the car show on maybe a Thursday, at the Drive Inn in Perry. We talked for half an hour at least. Jan told me Heiko had moved to Springwater, and made me promise to go visit him. A promise I didn’t keep. I meant to, but life just gets in the way. So very sorry, Tom Aten.
I have many fond memories of Heiko and his family as a child. He was a kind and generous man and I enjoyed the time we spent together on his farmland. He will be truly missed.
I am very sorry for your loss. He was a great guy, I have a lot of memories from when I was a kid, like him adjusting my carburetor on my snowmobile while doing 70mph down the hayfield in Jean’s and a flannel shirt when it was 10 degrees. Him and my Dad having a few beers together. Heiko launching the spitfire off the break wall at Conesus lake. How mad he got at Mark and I for tapping in his hard cider barrel in the basement. We learned a lot and I enjoyed being around him. He will never go un forgotten.
A great man and a good friend.
So sorry for you’re loss. I remember going to the farm when I was a kid with Mark. Thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
The Lesterhuis family is a part of my early childhood memories when we were a many small farms community. I have such fond memories of visiting Heiko and Sine and the boys during a time when sharing food, tools, and help were part of the fabric of farm life. Heikie was a good pal, always kind and as an adult still kind and decent. I am sorry to not see him in a while. May he rest in peace. May you find comfort in the days ahead.
My Condolences to the Lesterhuis family.
