Gasport/Conesus Lake: At nearly 92, Joyce passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at her home in Gasport, NY. She was born in Rochester, NY to the late Frank and Mary Sherwood. Joyce was predeceased by her husband; William Walkley, her step-mother; Dora Richardson and her sister; Phyllis Bow. Survived by her children; Robert (Sue) Walkley, Charlie (Christine) Walkley, Barbara (Clyde Messer) Walkley, Sally Dedicke, her grandchildren; Greg (Justina) Walkley, Janelle Walkley, Scott Walkley, Keri Walkley, Andy Walkley, Christopher Walkley, Alex Dedicke and her great grandchildren; Xavier, Averie, and Zachary.
Joyce enjoyed spending time at her home on Conesus Lake, whether taking a dip in the lake, entertaining her family and friends with a large meal including her 3 rd of July parties, or just taking time to relax and soak in the sun.
Joyce enjoyed socializing with her friends, whether it was hosting a Bridge party or going to a Bridge competition, bowling with her league, walking around Geneseo with her sister or simply running into her friends at the grocery stores. She lit up a room and always made people feel welcome. “She danced around the world” to Big Band Music.
Joyce loved to help others; she was very instrumental in helping veterans with her position at the VA. A member of the Ladies Auxiliary with the Conlon Mulvaney American Legion in Conesus. Amongst all of her passions, she mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2PM at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 21 Big Tree Street in Livonia. Friends and family are invited to arrive at 1PM. There will be a celebration gathering at the Conlon Mulvaney Legion Post, 6317 Marshall Road in Conesus. Interment will take place at Arnold Cemetery in Conesus, NY in the Spring with a date and time to be announced at a later point. So very sorry to hear this news of Mrs. Walkley’s passing. I loved her and all the Walkley family. Never one to let age get in the way she readily played with us “kids.” I remember her doing cartwheels in our front yard at the lake house. I also vividly recall her swimming with us in the lake. She adored her cats (and spoke fluent “Cat”) and they adored her. I remember sharing delicious corn on the cob, watermelon and peaches in her kitchen and I loved her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
We are so sorry Sally, Barb, Bob, Charlie and families. Marie recalls lasting friendship, fun and so many cookouts with Bill and Joyce. And we remember Joyful Joyce cartwheeling across her Conesus lawn, converting blackberries into yummy pies, shucking walnuts from the big tree, encouraging all the kids to explore nature with a special care for the critters all around us-especially cats like Kewtie Pie and so many more. Thank you for the gift of your light and laughter. We just returned from dropping clean towels and bedding at DC Humane Rescue Alliance. We hold you all close in our hearts and prayers. Mrs Walkley was a great person. I knew her when I would hang out down at the Lake with Ray Ruliffison a d the Walkley boys. She was a real sweet heart. I saw her several times over the years and it was always a pleasure to sit and talk with her. I am very sorry for your loss, I really thought a lot of her.
My mom also truly loved her cats and other critters as you can tell by contributing to your local pet shelter instead of flowers.

Joyce was a kind and loving friend and cousin .Spending time with Joyce was always fun. We enjoyed shopping , cleaning ,and just spending time together. I will miss her sweet smile .She always made me feel truly loved. Love you Joyce. Kay and Dan Walkley
