  1. RIP.. She lived in the trailer park behind my house.. and use to mow her lawn on weekends.. maybe that’s why I passed English.. looking back she was truly one of the best at LCS!!

  2. Evelyn was one of a kind. She befriended a very young and inexperienced teacher in the new frontier of special education. She welcomed me into her classroom long before “inclusion” or “mainstreaming” were required or even a thought. I learned many academic things from her including a love for the classics, but most of all she helped me hone the essential teaching skills skills of compassion and flexibility. Admittedly, I think I also learned to hoard anything that might be useful in teaching later on, a unique “filing system”and putting the kids before paperwork; I don’t regret it one bit. I think of her often and am glad I got to see her one last time a few months ago – her smile and warmth will remain with me forever. She was a true treasure. My condolences to Inez and Jay.

  3. Evelyn was one of the very first teachers to take me under her wing when I was first hired at Livonia in 1993. I learned a great deal from Evelyn. I’m very grateful for having her in my life. She was a very giving and selfless person. I will miss her.

  4. Another icon gone. Those of us who knew Evelyn for years will miss her unique abilities at communication.

  5. A dedicated teaching colleague and friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand, her joy and surprise when certain friends secretly decorated her classroom, and the fun times and kidding with “Saturday Breakfast Club” members. Good memories!Evelyn will be missed!

  6. Our prayers and thoughts are with all those who loved and found in Evelyn a very sincere and compassionate friend who would do things for others and seek no acknowledgement of her kind deeds. Her love and dedication to her students in school made her a gift to all whose paths she crossed over those teaching years in Livonia! Heaven has gained an angel!

  7. I have found memories of Miss Lawida! Still remember her English class and enjoyed being in her class. RIP Miss Lawida

  10. She was one of a kind. I will never forget her kindness to my daughter and her support if a green administrator.

  11. She was one of the teachers I liked the most when I was in High School. Loved her classes and her sense of humor. She had a wonderful smile. Condolences to her Sister and Niece.
