Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral

Grief is a normal and natural response to a loss, and often expresses itself in our lives in many ways. Grieving people commonly feel a wide range of thoughts and emotions, but each person experiences grief differently. Grief is unique; there is no "right" way to grieve.

While the grief journey can be frightening, painful, and overwhelming, it is also a necessary part of reconciling your loss in order to find continued meaning in your life. And while each grief journey is unique, the bereaved share many similar kinds of feelings that can provide the basis of a caring support network.

Support groups are often an effective way to help bereaved people by offering a confidential and supportive place to share their grief with others. Support groups help by:

  • providing a respectful environment
  • allowing members to explore the many feelings and thoughts about their loss and grief
  • introducing members to others who have had similar experiences, thoughts and feelings

Journeys is a grief and bereavement support program sponsored by the Livingston County Hospice. Its services are free to individuals who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
