Scottsburg: October 2, 2015 peacefully at home at age 83 years. Predeceased by daughter Bonnie Raponi. Survived by wife of 63 years Mary Cowley and children; Daughter, Debbie (Rick) Johnston of GA and their children, Toni, Sarah, and Eric. Daughter, Laura Slater of FL and her children, Jenny, SJ, Mandy, and Matt. Daughter, Sherry Cowley (Brian Barnett) of Scottsburg and their children, Adam and Ashley. Son, Stephen Michael Cowley of Dansville and his daughter Charlotte. Daughter, Suzanne Wratni of GA and her children, Jill and Stephanie. Son, Mark Cowley of NC, and his children, Christina and Caren. Daughter, Michelle Cowley of Scottsburg. Bonnie’s children, Rachel and Emily, and 25 great-grandchildren.

Steve was born on March 26, 1932 in Wayland, NY to parents Stephen J. Cowley Sr. and Geraldine (Fluno) Cowley. Steve was a retiree of Foster-Wheeler in Dansville, NY where he worked for over 40 years, he started as a welder and retired as the superintendent. He was a Charter Member of the Sparta Center Fire Department and was also a founder of the Scott Grove Conservation Club.

  1. I love you grandpa. I’ll always treasure the time I spent with you as a child. I can’t believe 25 years have flown by since then. It’s very sad. You & grandma always made me feel safe, adored, happy & loved as a child & young teen. Staying in your home was such a gift & significantly special for me. You helped shape me into the adult & mother that I am today. All those small, family moments we spent together had big impacts in my life & in my heart. Rest in peace. Love you always!

  3. Dear Mary and family, I was very sorry to read of Steve’s passing. He was a good man and managed his life’s difficulties with patience and grace. He may now rest in peace. My prayers go out to you at your time of loss.
