Gilbert “Gil” E. Sherman – May 27, 2024

Livonia: At age 93, Gilbert passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Morris. He was born on October 30, 1930, to the late Earl and Emma (London) Sherman. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Sally, brother Jerry Sherman, and his sister Joyce Bertini. Gil is survived by his nephews Bob Sherman, Dan Sherman, and niece Karen Sherman as well as other nephews and nieces. His good friends, Kevin Fitzgibbon and Al Taylor.

Gil worked for 30-plus years at Koerner Ford in Henrietta as a mechanic. After his retirement, he continued to do car repair in his shop as a hobby helping friends and those who asked. He went on to obtain his CDL-A license and would drive for a friend as an over-the-road truck driver, which he truly enjoyed, allowing him to see the country.

In the 1970s and 80s, Gil owned his own stock car and would race at the Canandaigua Dirt Track when he was not driving a tractor-trailer. Gil also raised and showed bloodhounds for over 25 years, winning numerous ribbons and awards. His bloodhound “Yodi” was his companion and was often seen with him.

  1. was my Uncle remember growing up going to see his car races, family visits, grew apart, but was able to reconnect. Almost seemed like he would outlive all of us. He was quite the character.

  2. Gil was a good Uncle.We had only gotten closer these last few years and wish it had been sooner.Going to miss the old guy and thought he would outlive us all.Rip Unc

  3. I Always enjoyed good conversation with Gil when he conducted business at the DMV. He always brightened my day. Great guy with much knowledge and good sense of humor. Condolences to his family and close friends.
