Geneseo: At age 89, Bob passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was born in Avon, NY to the late Robert and Mabel Waide. A caring husband and father he leaves with much love and pride, his beloved wife of 63 years; Donna Waide, his children; James (Joanne) Waide and Susan L. Waide, his granddaughter; Rachel Waide, his sister; Jean Benson, his brother-in-law; Gary Hallinen (Philip Benier) and his sister-in-law; Jane Hallinen, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Korean War Veteran, he trained as a commercial AC/Refrigeration mechanic and was a hardworking, farmer, builder, renovator and landlord until health problems arose in recent years.

There are a whole bunch of people over here Donna, both nurses and fellow patients, that are truly saddened at learning of Bob’s passing. It seemed like when he arrived the fun would begin. He was truly one of a kind, and he will definitely be remembered and missed.
Where do I start….I got to know Bob, through my dad, Perry Haynes. Bob was kind enough to hire me on during the summers while I was a teenager to help him around the farm, the duplex and the farm house.
Over those few summers I learned a lot from Bob. He taught me how to drive a manual transmission vehicle (farm truck with the shifter on the column). He showed me how to handle “George” the rooster, as he would always come after me when I went down to the first floor of the barn to feed the cattle. He taught me how to properly stack hay in the wagon when we were baling and how to stack it in the barn; I always enjoyed riding the bale elevator.
I also learned a bit about house restoration when we were updating his mom’s house on Sutton Road,. Somehow he actually made it fun, such as when we were blowing insulation into the walls of that place.
Bob was invaluable as a resource when Dad and I starting doing some of our own farming on Warner Road. When I was ready to buy some cows of my own, Bob hitched up the trailer and the three of us went to the Pavilion livestock auction and he showed us how to bid on calves. I believe I bought 2 that day; I couldn’t have been happier in that moment.
Bob also provided us a chick brooder. Thus, I was able to buy baby chicks mail order . Man, the Geneseo Postmaster in the early 80’s hated when our chicks would arrive, as we ordered 50 at a time and the chirping sounds was a bit much for him. However the cool thing was, when the chicks came in, dad would take some time off from work and get me out of school early, so we could pick up the chicks and place them in the brooder until they were ready for the chicken house.
I kept a ledger that I found at the dump down the street and everyday annotated how many eggs I gathered. On Saturday’s at the Geneseo dump on Warner Road, I set up a stand to sell the eggs produced the previous week.
In my mind the entire farming experience would not have been possible without, Mr. Waide; something I appreciate and will never forget.

I remember visiting my dad one weekend and hearing this voice, “It’s me Geno”. Up the kitchen stairs comes Bob. My dad’s face lights up with a smile. Some private joke passes between the two of them and they both laugh. I’m shock to see that my friend’s dad had been hanging out with my dad at McDonald’s some mornings. It didn’t stop there they were taking trips to the casinos too. Suzie thought I already knew about it. Thank you Bob for bringing fun back into my dad’s life. I’m sure you are both laughing and hanging out having breakfast and at the casino together again.

Donna, Jimmy and Suzie,I am so sorry for your loss. He was a good man! I remember working on the farm one summer for him. At lunch time, he always split a large glass bottle of Coke Cola with me; which was treat since my mom and dad hardly let us have soda. His laugh is unforgettable.
