John McLaughlin “IRISH” – March 28, 2021

Livonia:  At age 85, John passed peacefully on March 28, 2021.  He was born on May 31, 1935 in Cloughmills, Ireland to the late James and Charlotte McLaughlin.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy McLaughlin; and siblings; Thomas, William, James, Sam, Mary, Sarah, Annie, Eileen, Isabel, and Joe.  Survived by children; Bryan (Molly) McLaughlin, Brad (Karen) McLaughlin, Wendy (Richard) Monroe, Mary Ann (Scott) Schlesing, and Colleen (Eric) VanDurme; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces & nephews.

John came to the United States on the Queen Mary when he was 18 years old.  He married Dorothy (Gregory) McLaughlin in 1957 and they raised their family of 5 in Livonia, NY.  He was known by his friends as “IRISH” and was “Poppy” to his children and grandchildren.  His working career included time at Champion Knit, Livonia Dairy, Annis Dairy, and the Honeoye Central School District.  He was a big Indy and NASCAR racing fan and like many of us was a loyal fan of the Buffalo Bills.  Poppy loved his family, animals, a cold beer, and time to enjoy a cigar.

A special thank you to all the dedicated staff at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for the care they provided.

A private graveside service will be held for the family at Union Cemetery, Scottsburg, NY.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487 or the SusieQ Dog ResQ, PO Box 236, Conesus, NY 14435.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com
