Avon – Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the age of 82. He was in the comfort of his own home in Avon, NY surrounded by many loved ones. Dave was born on February 5, 1937 in Batavia, NY to the late David Sr. and Gladys (Coral) Johnson. After graduating from Pavilion School in 1955, Dave enlisted in the United States Army. He was first stationed in Bischofsgrun, Germany where he met the love of his life, Inge, and married on February 1, 1958. After marriage, he was transferred to Frankfurt, Germany. Dave reenlisted for an additional three years at Fort Ord, California. After proudly serving our country for six years, he was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5 “SP5”.
After the Army, Dave, Inge, and their children moved back to New York. He then worked for Lapp Insulator for two years. In 1968 he began his career as Lead Operator of the Avon Waste Water Treatment Plant and retired in 1995. After retirement, Dave and Inge enjoyed traveling south every winter, visiting family and friends. Through the years, David was very active in his community. He was a longtime member of Avon Lions Club and Avon American Legion 294. He enjoyed participating in the Avon Corn Festival, selling Poppies, and ringing the bell for the Red Kettle Campaign. For a short period he volunteered as a driver for the Avon Ambulance.
Predeceased by his loving wife Inge Johnson, infant son Ronald Lynn Johnson, sister-in-law Erlene, Brother-in-laws Karlheinz and Herbert Becker. Survived by children; Ilona (Leonard) Bianchi, Dean (Angela) Johnson, Christine Formicola (Jeff Wasson), Karen Johnson (Gerry Hoffman), and Daniel (Jennifer) Johnson; grandchildren, Amanda (Christopher) Ronzo, Michelle Bianchi, Joshua (Alyssa) Formicola, Ashlie Formicola, Danielle (Adam) Mangene, Ronni Lynn Johnson, and Abe Johnson; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia, and Madison Ronzo and Avery Mangene; siblings, Bruce Johnson, Diane (Gary) Yost, and Duane (Christine) Johnson. Also survived by his Aunt Marilyn (Coral) Worthington, sister-in-law Luci Becker, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

I was one of the many troubled kids to come into the home of mom and dad Johnson. They loved and treated me as there own. Mom Johnson went out of her way to get me a job at precise Plastics in Avon. Dad Johnson kept me busy with chores around the house. They both showed me how to be responsible. They both loved me no matter what I did, good or bad. I loved them both very dearly, and miss them a ton. It was very sad and broke my heart to hear of dad’s passing, but as Dean told me he (dad) is no longer suffering. He is truly in a good place alongside his wife. Mom and Dad I miss you and love you very much.

My condolences to the Johnson Family, It breaks my heart that two very important people who helped me when I needed it have been taken home to our Lord. David (dad) was a funny, loving man who always put his wife (mom) and children first. I was blessed to be one of those children for a time. I lived with them as one of their own, and was never treated any different. Chores, homework, school was a must. But, family time, laughs were also a must. They both were two of the most loving, amazingly good hearted people you could ever know. And wouldn’t hesitate to let you know it if you messed up, which showed how much they loved you.. This World was a better place with David and Inge in it. They will be greatly missed as they were Greatly Loved. They are together again. Dad enjoy eternity with mom.
